RISK Gets the Metal Gear Treatment

It has been announced that the war-based board game ‘RISK’ is getting the Metal Gear treatment in a new edition. Having never played a game of RISK before in my life I don’t know whether to be excited, or to run for the hills.

Any RISK fans here?

  1. thats kinda random never played risk either always wanted to since red dwarf series 4 episode 6

    • Ah, Meltdown… one of my favourite Red Dwarf eps.

  2. Risk is a great game in it’s own right, but they keep releasing terrible tie-in versions (LotR, Star Wars) that never work as well as the original. The map on this version looks pretty similar to normal risk but it they’ve changed rules I’d avoid it like the plague!

    • You’re right about the tie-ins, they’re all absolutely crap. The only other one we really like aside from the original is the futuristic one. Totally different rules but it’s worth a dabble.

  3. RISK Factions was a proper good little game.

    • Yeah it is, I enjoy the new version on it as well. Good if you want a quick game.

  4. Funny you should mention Risk, I am playing a game with friends on Saturday night. We usually dust off the board and play more over the winter months, its a great game of strategy and an excuse to get the lads together.

This looks interesting and might be a good alternative to the normal Risk… although I agree with iamgiantwoman, if the rules have been changes avoid it!

  5. I’d take the risk if board-games weren’t so expensive. The problem with Risk is that it takes forever to finish and you have to be 3-4 people to play it, so you’re lucky if you get to play it once a year.

  6. An L.A. Noire Cluedo would be cool. :-)

  7. Cool box that :P Risk is a ok game. Fun with loads of players. Not played it for ages tho.

  8. War… war never changes.

    Or does it?

    The war has changed.

    Did it?

The answer is no.. unless it is yes.

No, of course it is. Is war. Yes, no, yes.

  9. Risk is an excellent game as a Board game and new maps are always welcome but random tie ins never quite work as well as the original. I do however love all the little extras on Risk Factions – that is the best computerised Risk game I’ve played so far. Even if dice games = evil luck

  10. Risk? Random dice rolling nonsense that creates hate filled board game sessions – Riskrage, it is known. Though Factions is a nice distraction on PSN (when EA servers don’t choke – and ideally extra maps would be nice), Godstorm and 2210AD have some great tactics that slightly balance the dice randomness and the LotR version is quite a nice theme without extra flaws. Star Wars is broken along with many of the others though.
