A survey has found that more than a quarter of 3DS owners think that the 3D effect makes games worse. 28% of those surveyed said the 3D gimmick detracts from the gaming experience, whilst 22% said they thought 3D improved games. 13% of respondents always played their console with the 3D turned off.
The survey also revealed that only 28% of respondents who had not used the console were aware that you did not need to use glasses for the 3D effect.
The results were released at the 3D Gaming Summit where keynote speaker Vince Zampella revealed that Respawn Entertainment was not assigning any resources to 3D development. Describing 3D as ‘interesting’ he said that ‘it’s not something that’s a focus for us’.

I must admit I got my 3DS for the improved visuals. I had no interest in the 3D effect and only switch it on once or twice

I must admit, I don’t like the 3D on it at all. My missus has one, if I have a play I turn the 3D all the way off.

If it was real 3D (instead of 2D with added depth) there’s every chance you’d pass out from happiness and never wake up again. We need to introduce you to new technology slowly from here on in. ;)

I really like the 3D. It’s a shame that DoA Dimensions cuts to 30fps with it on because it’d be a perfect example for showing off how great the 3D is. It’s still pretty great though.

I very rarely used the 3D, and mostly turn it off to save the battery life.
For me the 3D is a gimmick, where as my Brother who is almost blind in 1 eye cannot see the 3D anyway.
That said, the games available on the 3DS thus far are excellent without the 3D. DOA is the best in the series and they even managed to improve Ocarina Of Time.

I’ve played with the 3DS for a bit and it’s a fail IMO. 3D doesn’t really do much and graphics still look pixelated.

I’m not surprised. I’m one who usually has no problems with motion sickness from watching 3D movies and I’m a pro at those 3D images/videos where you have to cross your eyes to see the 3D effect (herp a derp!) but I struggled to keep Pilotwings focused in 3D mode while giving it a try at a shop. Looking at the 2D screen every now and then just to lose focus again on the 3D effect on the upper screen also didn’t help. I’ll give it another try somewhere down the road but for now I’m put off a little.

I only turn off on Games that do it badly, The 3D is brilliant but you just need the right games….
