Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Will Require PSN Pass

According to Sony software manager Juan Jimeñez, Naughty Dog’s upcoming blockbuster title will be the second PlayStation 3 exclusive title to make use of the newly adopted “PSN Pass” scheme.

Similar to most online-enabled THQ and EA games (Sony’s Resistance 3 joining the ranks last month) each new copy will harbour a one-use code allowing full access to all multiplayer features. Therefore, those who do buy it second hand run the risk of not receiving a pass and must fork out ten bucks before they can jump online.

  1. another one for the list.

it won’t be long before the list of publishers who do deserve my money is easier to manage than those that don’t.
i think it’s pretty close to the tipping point already.

    • if they lose you your hurting game not the developers.

  2. I’m sorry but I really don’t see the problem with these passes? I’ll buy uc3 new anyway & I’ll put the code in. But whilst I’ve bought used before, I’ve not had the issue with passes, that said, if I did & wanted to go online then I’d buy a pass, I don’t see why Sony should provide mp servers for free!

  3. lol. I’m buying a soda, playing the MP early, then buying it used in january when theres no good games coming out, for the story. and since I will have already played the MP for about the time it takes for me to get bored with MP, I won’t need an online pass, I don’t think Sony has thought this out, lol.

    • I don’t get what you mean. What’s soda got to do with it?

      • I’m not sure if its a global promotion or just for North America but the fast food franchise Subway, has a promotion with Naughty Dog/Sony where if you buy a 32oz ‘soda-pop’… coca-cola/pepsi … you get early access for the complete multiplayer of U3. I even believe all of your stats and unlocks carry over to the full games release. The 32oz cup cost like 2$, so instead of buying an online pass for 10$, I’ll buy a ‘soda’ for 2$, and get to play U3 MP. Since I usually get bored with the MP part of the game within a few weeks, its a great deal for me. But its just kinda weired Sony is giving the early access away for basically free to people whom might not even buy the game, but Sony are charging people for an online pass, when it takes the same exact amount of work and resources on Sony’s part.

  4. Have to laugh at the narrow-minded comments of “I’m happy because it doesn’t affect me”

    Doesn’t make it right, though.

This was going to be a day 1 purchase for me, but not anymore. I’m boycotting games with an online code as it is ethically wrong.

No other industry on the planet does this, and it is ultimately the consumer who ends up being shafted.
