Team 78731 Reaches Top 400

It’s a week since the last Folding@home post. This post was just going to be the results to the little competition I put down in the monthly update but since quite a bit has happened in the past week, why not put it all here?

Top 400

As the title says we’ve officially made it into the Top 400, 5 months after getting into the top 500. Looking into the future, we can probably expect to see the top 300 in about 4 months, presuming that we at least keep the current rate of points flowing. But obviously the more of you that join, the faster we can climb, and the more teams we’ll overtake.

Overtakes

Speaking of overtakes, over the past week we managed to push our way past the giant that is Microsoft, but then that wasn’t exactly hard when we’re folding 65,000 PPD (points per day) more than them. We have also passed pfv, who we’ve been folding alongside (in terms of average PPD) for over a year.

Competition Results

And finally, what you’re probably here for, the competition results:

5 Comment Badges

In last weeks post you were asked to comment using a special phrase. If you read enough of the post you’d have known the special phrase you needed to use was “Feeling Hot Hot Hot“. Out of the 7 qualifying comments, here are the people who successfully won themselves a badge (randomly selected):

  1. cnutard
  2. TheDeathAvenger
  3. project84music
  4. XisTG
  5. Deathbrin

5 Folder Badges

If you’ve submitted a WU within the last 7 days (prior to 8/10), you’ll have qualified to win a badge. Out of the 53 people that qualified, these are the lucky 5 (randomly selected):

  1. Slimeh
  2. Yahavage
  3. fattyuk
  4. hazelam
  5. Bonyman

3 Bonus Badges

And finally the bonus badges go to those who have made a special contribution in the recent past:

  1. RedStarGlow – Basically… top of the pops… he’s been around for years, and for most of that time has sat at number one, being the core of the team.
  2. SilverCider – He’s been around for a good few months and during that time has given us an extreme push with his behind the scenes power.
  3. DeathBrin – A relatively new member to the team, he’s rocketed to the top of the active leader-board, and will be at the number 1 spot in just over 10 months.

Combined, these 3 have made a big contribution to the team, and continue now by getting us just under 2.5million points per month. It’s safe to say that without them we wouldn’t be where we are now, thanks guys.

Claiming

If you’re one of the 13 above, drop an email to jas-n [at] sonyfanatic [dot] com with the subject “TSA Badges” along with your name, user name and address in the body. We’ll then get those badges out to you.

Here’s to the future folding efforts.

  1. Well done TSA and thank you for my badge. I shall also proudly wear it – though in support from the UK ;)

I seem to remember a certain USA member of the folding team challenging anyone to his top spot; I think he may finally have someone to take it up! I am secretly building up to it myself though (at least in thought… for now…)

  2. Well done TSA Community!

  3. Oh wow – i won a badge! A small thing but it makes me very happy – i shall wear it with pride! :)

    • I would also like to commend RedStarGlow, SilverCider and Deathbrin for their fantastic contribution and thank everyone who folds for the team, every bit helps.

    • I did disregard you from the comments part due to you realising after (then recommenting) the special phrase. At least you won the other way.

  4. Yay, thanks for the badge. Been trying to fold some more but my PS is normal in use for other things and I don’t leave it on over night as it makes it hard to sleep.

Quick question about folding though… I was working on a WU the other day and was at about 60% but I wanted to game, so I quit out and went on my merry way. This WU had made it to 60% over a couple of days.

Then the next day I turned the PS off and came back to find it folding quite happily. Rather unhappily though it had started on a new WU and the other definitely hadn’t finished as my WU count hadn’t gone up.

Is there any explanation as to why it did this, when I’ve seen it save it’s progress at other times?

    • Most likely is that it expired, how long was it from when the WU was started to when it was replaced?

      • I think that one had maybe a day or two without Life with PS loading up.

      • Weird, should have been fine.

      • Ah well, I’ll make sure to let it run every day when I shower just to make sure they don’t expire. Just a pitty as I was a good 70% through that WU. Completed another last night though, woo.
