Cheap PC Gaming: Stealth Bastard

Hello, this week it’s my turn to talk to you about cheap PC gaming, and I’ve chosen Stealth Bastard: Tactical Espionage Arsehole. Developed by Curve Studios (of Explodemon fame), this brilliantly titled game promises to play like if “Metal Gear Solid and Super Meat Boy had a baby out of wedlock”.

[drop]A 2D platformer, Stealth Bastard is broken up into four chapters, which each contain multiple levels. The goal for each one of these levels is simple, as all you have to do is open the exit door and escape. Of course, it sounds much easier than it is due to the precise platforming required, as well as enemies, traps and puzzles.

The ‘Stealth’ part of the title comes from the fact that you must use shadows to your advantage, avoiding security cameras and robots. Now, in many stealth games if you get spotted then an alarm sounds and all guards go into high alert; not so in Stealth Bastard. If you get spotted you get blasted into pieces by a laser, it’s as simple as that.

I assume the ‘Bastard’ part of the title comes from the fact that you will be shouting that at the screen a fair bit, as the game certainly provides a stiff challenge. It definitely does draw comparisons to Super Meat Boy, as you leap from point to point trying to avoid a nice laser hair cut, or spiked trap.

[drop2]There’s also a comprehensive level editor so you can get involved and create something hellish. These can then be uploaded and shared with anyone who fancies a challenge. Every level is also timed, with your best effort getting uploaded to an online leaderboard. Some of the times on there are insane!

So how much would you pay for this enjoyable, challenging game? £5? £10? Well, Stealth Bastard is absolutely free. When I say “free” I don’t mean “buy the game, and then shell out via micro-transactions”, I mean it’s absolutely free to download and play.

  1. Downloading as I type this, looks good to me.
I must say though, couldn’t have read this at a worse time, I have a paper due in at 4. Haha.

  2. It’s insanely good.

    • It really is! Anyone having trouble with this, try ‘Running this program as an administrator’, otherwise your firelwall might make it a bit too stealthy.

      • Cheers for that Ron, was going to have a whinge that it wouldn’t run, but you’ve saved my day. As far as the game goes, anyway :)

  3. Looks like a rightly good game. Shame it’s windows only. Piss.

  4. This is great, I can’t believe it’s free!

I was very pleased to find that it supports my PS3 controller as well, as I hate keyboard only games.

  5. Man, that looks fun, I’m sold! ….or well, you know.

For cheap PC gaming, the Humble Bundle is ace, you get great indie games for PC and pay whatever you want for them. Seriously.

  6. It’s so cool!I’d recommend an exciting site to you.
