Next Game From L.A. Noire Creator is Whore of the Orient

Brendan MacNamara, the creator of L.A. Noire, is set to have his next game made by Kennedy Miller Mitchell. The game, according to Financial Review, is entitled Whore of the Orient. This is likely a reference to Shanghai, which was sometimes referred to by that nickname.

Team Bondi, the studio that made L.A. Noire is now defunct but many of the staff got folded into work on KMM’s film projects. Following completion of L.A. Noire, it is thought that most of the Team Bondi staff worked on Happy Feet Two. KMM, co founded by the creator of Mad Max, is also working on a tie in with that franchise’s next movie, the much delayed Mad Max 4.

The announcement of this new project means that the Sydney-based studio will be moving forward on two game projects as well as its movie work.

  1. I doubt this will do quite so well without having Rockstar’s name on the front cover.

    • Plus, i think it won’t do so well as LA Noire as a few people felt a bit ‘burned’ by what was hyped to be a GoTY, but just ended up being a little on the dull side.

  2. Interesting name. I can already imagine hearing the title read out in an advert. I’m guessing it’s a working title though.

  3. The name has sold it to me already.

  4. That setting with that gameplay would be amazing but good luck with the marketing!

  5. From the creator of L.A Noir is whats needed splashed on the cover, and on the adverts. should do O.K but people are right, rockstar games get bought from reputation

  6. “Dad, I want Whore of the Orient for my birthday present this year!”

    • “Oh my, how splendid, I’ll pick one up on my next expedition to the Far East.”

  7. Brendan MacNamara really likes to do unique stuff doesnt he? LA Noire and now this? Out of left field for sure.

  8. While I don’t think L.A. Noire lived up to the hype if they can reign in the the excessively long development time (which as they will be building on L.A. Noire’s tech shouldn’t be a problem) and tighten up the gameplay then this could be good.

That’s presuming it’s in the same style of course, could be something completely different!

  9. I’ll keep a keen eye on this having enjoyed LA Noire very much.

  10. Interesting, not sure the title will go down that well though…
