GDC 2012: Paradox Announces 3 New Titles

Mount & Blade, Salem publisher Paradox Interactive has officially unveiled three previously-teased projects in the pipeline, all three of which are playable at this year’s GDC.

Firstly we have The Showdown Effect from Magicka developer Arrowhead Game Studios. Keeping the zany multiplayer vibe running, the game once codenamed “Project JFK” pits players against one another in a series of infinitely customizable 2.5D deathmatches.

Next we have Critical Studios and its multiplayer dungeon crawler, Dungeonland. It may appear to be your standard fare hack n’ slash but there’s a twist. Dungeonland may be a four-player online title, though only three participants will assume the role of adventurers. The fourth lucky player will actually get to be the Dungeon Master, throwing traps, monsters and other obstacles at the condemned trio of heroes. Check out the trailer, it’s not very often we laugh at jokes which are directed at the gaming press.

Finally, there’s RED Frontier from Zeal Game Studios. In this multiplayer RTS, players struggle for resources across sci-fi landscapes, building bases and unleashes waves of droids to attack opponents.

All three games are looking great, adding some much-needed diversity to the Paradox gallery of hardcore strategy games. Hopefully we’ll also get to see some in-game footage of medieval/FPS crossover, War of the Roses.

  1. I wonder what “the big secret” for Dungeonland is…
Cross platform play? Vita? It’s actually not in development?

    • For now, I think all 3 are PC exclusives. That said, Paradox has branched out to other platforms in the past including PlayStation 3. I’m sure we’ll hear more during the week.

    • I’m reasonably sure that it’s that you get to be the dungeon keeper, as that’s not mentioned at all in the trailer.

  2. Heh, Dungeonland looks awesome.

  3. Dungeonland looks good, the trailer made me laugh! :)
