Codemasters have announced that F1 2012 will launch in September this year for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and to celebrate they’ve released a new video.
The video shows Creative Director Stephen Hood meeting the next generation of drivers and asking whether Codemasters’ earlier F1 games have been of benefit to them in their career.
Sam Bird, currently testing for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, says, “I think Codemasters have done a super job of giving regular people a proper insight into what a FORMULA ONE car is like.”
Accordingly, F1 2012 will introduce a “Young Driver Test mode” which will act as a series of tutorials.

I can’t help but think they would be better off skipping a year then releasing alongside the start of the season. The hype would be greater and so presumably they would be able to sell more. And that way you could play for longer before the teams, cars, drivers, tracks, regulations and more change again.

Always thought that too

But they’d lose 6 months of potential wonga.
Profit one, common sense nil.

2012’s cars were only revealed in the last month or so. I don’t think they would have time to incorporate all the changes in time for the first race of the season.

This, and also it helps them to keep an eye on some of the early real season pace, so that they can get this right for the game with what drivers and what teams are contending for the top spots with the AI.
Not to mention that last year had the introduction of DRS zones, and this year will probably see these tweaked a bit in several tracks. So again, that’s another thing they need to try and get right, and not have a huge tail of support issues.

They can always tweak it with a patch now and then, it’s not difficult. They should definitely release near to the start of the season, there’s literally no viable reason not to. They would make more money from it anyway. Also it’s ridiculous that now we have f1 2011 until September with last seasons drivers!! They could at least patch f1 2011 with the new drivers and cars for those who want to start a new game with them. Silly really.

even last year quite a few of the drs zones and Tyre compounds were wrong due to releasing earlier then the end of the season.

Oh, to be regular people

Stoked :D not for that silly new mode though….

Excellent news. Yet to buy F1 2011 but still looking forward to this.

I hope they’ve learnt from the 11/11 cock-up.

and the frame rate issues, the skyhook glitches, invisible walls, the SLI/Crossfire problems….

No psvita version?
cam the man
I hope they have one planned.

Doubt I’ll be buying this on release, as much as I love F1, no-way can I justify 40 quid for what is essentially the same game again. Much better to wait until xmas and pick it up for 20 quid like I did with ’11.

I agree with you but you’ll miss out on the fantastic TSA multiplayer. It’s a day one purchase for the TSA race meets/tournament for me.

As I did with F1 2011 I traded back in 10 for £8 at tesco with two other games and picked it for pennies. This is what I shall do this year.

Won’t be touching this until after release and AFTER its confirmed it runs ok on PS3. F1 2011 was appalling in that regard, a clear step backwards from F1 2010.

YES!

Looking forward to this! Need to sort out the frame rate issues on PS3 and make the AI drivers a little better in terms of not being idiots on the track. Hoping its up the visual standards of 2010 too as 11 was a bit of a let down.
