Rumour: Wii U To Cost Less Than $300

Those secretive unnamed sources have been gossiping once more and this time the topic is the Wii U.

A lengthy post over on Forget The Box estimates the manufacturing costs for the new console to be around $180 (£114) and that the public will be able to buy the hardware at around $300 (£189).

“Cutting production costs to maximize profits is Nintendo’s main concern with the Wii U. They are cutting costs in the Wii U’s hardware to build back confidence in investors. Nintendo wants investors to view Wii U as a less risky proposition,” said the mysterious source.

Nintendo are likely to bundle the console with a game which will increase the price, but would you be tempted by a £200 Wii U?

  1. Great price but i hope they haven’t cut back on it’s potential in order to sell it cheaper.

  2. I fear that it will also mean that they are cutting corners in order to save cash. :S I really hope we don’t get reports of Wii U’s breaking down on day 1.

    £250 is a decent price for a console but they may want to build up a libary of launch games as the 3DS barely had any, if i recall correctly.

  3. The Wii U will fail, people bought the Wii as they thought it was super awesome when it clearly isn’t.
    Wii U will not sell out like the Wii, it’ll go the way of 3DS, begging for a price cut. Not to mention PS4 and 720 will annihilate the Wii U.

    • But if Ninty uses the tablet control in a way that is fun, i think it won’t fail. Plus, if they can, they probably will have a ton of exclusives which could help to keep it afloat. Also, if the DRM rumours are true, i can see the Wii U using that to it’s advantage as many gamers would probably abandon both consoles. Imo. :)

  5. So lets say a bundled Wii U with a game, for around £210… Where can you go wrong on that? Sounds like a great offer.

  7. Not interested in the Wii U at all at the moment. I only have visions of a huge deluge of shovelware at the moment.
