DOTA 2 Will be F2P, Cosmetic Items Available to Buy

Valve have confirmed that the upcoming DOTA 2 will be free to play. It’s been suspected for a while now, but it’s nice to know for certain.

There will also be a store that will allow you to purchase cosmetic items to customise your characters with clothing and accessories. There will be nothing else available on the store, all will be completely cosmetic, and even those will be available just by playing the game, levelling up and trading with other players.

Valve said that they believe that “restricting access to heroes could be destructive to game design”, so they simply won’t be doing it. All heroes will be available from the start to all players for free.

Yes, this likely means there will be another Valve game that involves hats. Do you like games that you can play for free? Go and look at our F2P week from April for previews and impressions on a great many F2P games.

  1. Glad to hear, I hate “F2P” games which are in-fact ‘Pay2Win’ when all the decent stuff costs real money. You can always trust Valve to get it right.

  2. Will Blizzard go F2P?
