As Metal Gear Solid gets ready to hit PS Vita (in the shape of the Collection, which comprises MGS2 and MGS3) sales of the struggling console have doubled in Japan. Whilst the Collection won’t land in the UK until the end of the month, it’s out soon elsewhere and the upcoming release seems to be having a positive effect on hardware sales.
That, and the shipping of Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny, which has sold well in Japan.
Whilst the news is indeed good, it’s hardly earth shattering, seeing as the portable was only moving around 7,000 units last week, increasing to around 13,000 this. That said, it did sell more than the PSP for the first time in five months, which is – whichever way you look at it – encouraging.
Let’s hope that this sudden buoyancy is sustained.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, the PS Vita is an amazing machine and it will do just fine in time. For once I actually believe Sony when they say they’re happy with the progress (but would like more of course).
I’d rather slow and steady sales by owners who genuinely love the machine and will continue to buy games for it, than the extreme hype then dump we’ve seen with machines like the Wii or Kinect. Yes Wii and Kinect sold a (record breaking) shiteload, but how many of those are in cupboards right now?
In 12-24 months we’ll all be looking at the Vita as a slow burning success story with a massive and impressive games library, great feature set and excellent support including integration with the PS4. Mark my words.

Amen
My Wii and Kinect and long gone lol

same goes for Move too to be honest. I bought that and now its collecting dust in the loft.

Well that’s really your own fault Bilbo. Move may not be setting the world on fire, but it’s doing what it promised to do a whole lot better than Kinect. Despite the niche group of Move haters on TSA I think a fair portion of Move owners realise the versatility of Move and appreciate the accuracy it brings.
Just this week I’ve been playing 4am, Sorcery and Babel Rising – three new Move games, three different play styles and all incredibly accurate and well executed.
By contrast I tried Babel Rising with Kinect and wanted to top myself. Completely ruins an otherwise enjoyable game, and I have the perfect room environment for Kinect. No wonder EG gave the Kinect version 4/10.
Likewise, I downloaded the demo of Steel Batalions, the one Kinect game I’ve been genuinely excited about. OMFG, the Kinect controls in Steel Batalion are a complete abomination. I can’t even begin to describe how WOEFUL they make the game. Oh wait, yes I can. Inaccurate, Slow, Ridiculous, Laggy and Frustrating. How Kinect has sold 18 million is beyond me (fwiw, I got mine for a steal second hand, so I didn’t contribute to that sales total).
Say what you will about the Move, but like the Vita at least it’s GOOD hardware, and does what it promises to do out of the box.
stueeeee
I do hope your right. As encouring as your words sound I thought this of the psp, the ‘compatibility’ of ps2-psp games were mostly unlocking items in game. They promised so much more compatibility between psp and ps3 and it never really happend.
Lets hope they really have learned from past mistakes…..

Great news. I’m suprised there isn’t a Vita/MGS bundle as I’m sure this would increase sales.

Good to hear the Vita is getting more sales. Lets hope it keeps it up

Put the games out and the gamers will come. Who knew!

Refreshingly good news for the Vita, let’s hope it picks up momentum.

Don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but…cut the memory card prices, Sony!

Persona 4 golden is out next week as well for the Vita.
Tokyo Jungle is number 1 in the charts as well :)

Picked up Gravity Rush, Rayman Origins and Escape Plan so I’ll be spending a lot of time with my Vita in the next two weeks. Still not sure if I’ll get the MGS collection…

Yay.

Hasn’t the VITA had a store specific price cut in Japan as well?
