Sony Offering Discounts On Games Via Email

This is interesting – you might have got something similar through today but it looks like Sony (or at least SCEE) are starting to offer email discounts on PSN games.

The email I got was for Hydrophobia Prophecy, which came with a voucher code that once entered would let me buy the game for just £1.19. I thought it was free at first, but that’s not the case.

“We’ve included a voucher code at the bottom of this email to download Hydrophobia Prophecy for an amazing £1.19 to your PS3 system,” said the email. “Have you got what it takes to battle enemies using futuristic weapons in a floating city where terrorists have taken control?”

The codes appear to be unique.

The game has been included as part of PSN Plus in the past I believe, but for that kind of money it’s hard to skip, and hopefully this is the start of something a little more regular.

  1. Good price for that game. I never got into it…I just felt they were quite a bit too ambitious on their small budget.

  2. A somewhat similar experience, I received an email from Sony with a code for £5 off of Starhawk at HMV back before release. Was a nice surprise and hopefully something they continue to do.

      i hated the demo so anyone can have my code. its not a bad game really, just not my thing tbh.

  6. Got the email, but looking at reviews on Metacritic, it’s hard to decide. Even though it has 70, it has a whole range of scores. TSA gave it a 9/10, while OPM gave it a 6/10. Most reviews say it just seems to lack on the implementation of ideas, and yet the PSN version is supposedly the best.
    Will check tomorrow if there’s a demo for it, but at £1.19 it’s hard to say no.

    • No! Even at that price I’ll give it a miss. It’s not a genre I like and got loads of other games to get through.

        A little rough around the edges, sure, but still quite entertaining.

    • The game is not that bad tbh, the controls & movements are a bit iffy but once you get into it, it’s unnoticeable. I downloaded this while it was free on ps+ I enjoyed it just ain’t got that replay able value

  10. I got the email too. I’m a new PS+ user and once I read the game was about to become free for PS+ users, I thought this was rather cheeky.
