More iPhone 5, iPad Mini Release Rumours Point To September Release Date

Look, I know. I’m with you. iPhone release rumours are boring, right? There are about a bajillion of them every year and none of them are any more reliable than taking your advice from that crazy dude in the park with one shoe and a can of special brew. But people seem to love reading about them. So buckle up and join me on another adventure through the wonderful land of “just bloody guessing at it”.

Today, it’s The Guardian‘s turn. They say it’s coming (duh) and that it’ll be announced in early September, with a September 21st release date. I think that iPhone rumours are based around the principle of “throw enough shit and some of it’s bound to stick”. Sorry, I’m letting my rampant cynicism get the better of me. I mean, everyone seems to be having a stab at an announcement and release date, someone has to be right, eventually.

The Guardian seems to be backing its information and claiming a new mini dock connector (which, had better get an adapter or Apple are getting a very expensive speaker dock thrown through their lovely big window) and a “nano-SIM” which is even more fiddly and tiny (40% smaller) than the micro SIM they already pedal. They reckon that the new superfast 4G system will be supported but only in the US, the EU using a different frequency to our American cousins.

They also say that Digitimes is now quoting “industry sources” on manufacturing at Pegatron (I wonder what he transforms into?) ramping up on a new iPad mini, too.

It’s as believable as any of the other rumours we hear, I guess. Which means that it might be true, or it might be a load of old crap. We’ll know soon enough and we’ll probably see a dozen more rumours between now and then.

  1. “crazy dude in the park with one shoe and a can of special brew”

    Leave me alone.

  2. 4G support in the US is pretty much as guaranteed as you can get at this stage.

I hope the release date is true, I want to get a upgrade my Nokia N8 to a new phone (namely, the Galaxy S3 or the One X) but I’m hesitant on buying an Android because I’ll have to pay for everything that I already own on the iPad. If the next iPhone can match the S3, or come close, I’ll go with that.

  3. 4G auctions were in the news today with industry insiders saying the UK networks are aiming at getting it up and running towards the end of next year. Also, yes I totally agree with the sentiment about the adapters. I’ll hold off on cursing apple until the rumours are proven true, but me and my Zeppelin will not be happy bunnies if they are, grrr.

  4. Check your link to the Guardian, it tries to send me to WP-Admin

    • oops, not sure how I did that… thanks for the notice. I’ve fixed it now!

  5. I want an iPhone 5!

    • Until I see what it’s got I think I’ll wait.
In my opinion, with Apple it’s better to skip a generation so you notice more of an improvement. If you’ve got an iPhone then great but I can’t imagine much of an upgrade from an iPhone 4s

      • I’ve got an iPhone 4, I only use my iPhone for texting and browsing. Haven’t really used any apps since 2008 when the initial excitement wore off lol.

    • If you count the progression, the 4S is the iPhone 5.
So there you go. Go grab a 4S today and you’ve essentially got a 5.

The next iPhone ought to be the iPhone 6.

      • Could be, but I think they’ll just call it the new iPhone, like they did with iPad.

      • What about the 3GS? That makes the new one the iPhone 7!

      • 1. iPhone
        2. iPhone 3G
        3. iPhone 3Gs
        4. iPhone 4
        5. iPhone 4s
        6. __________

And my bets are that it would most likely would be called the new iPhone, just like the iPad. Makes me wonder what the iPhone after THAT would be called? The new new iPhone?

  6. I find that most rumours are utter crap. Sure, report on the basic rumour itself but when we manage to wade through eight follow-up counter-rumours or other such shite, I find myself quickly going elsewhere until everyone’s calmed the hell down.

  7. Rumour has it……Rumour has it……

    good song that.

  8. I like the valuable information you provide in your articles. I will bookmark your blog and check again here regularly. I’m quite sure I will learn plenty of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next! buy ipad adapters from http://www.binnbox.com/
