Speaking to Digital Trends, Media Molecule’s Rex Crowle, designer on Tearaway, has said developing on PS Vita is a “fantastic experience”.
“It’s been a fantastic experience because the device is just so covered in inputs,” he said. “We really wanted to utilise all of those new methods of interacting with the game to really give a totally new experience. It’s really about not so much touch, but having players really feel that you have a world in your hands as you’re playing it.”
Crowle says that the main thing the studio has been doing is “building a real context for all the features” and describes the game as “like a buddy movie between the character that’s inside the game and you outside of the game helping them out as this god controlling their world”.
“You can do all the things that you might expect to get to do with paper, which is a very unique substance,” he adds. “It’s not like steel or wood, and its very pliable. It’s affected by physical properties. It’s not an art style. The entire game is designed to feel like paper.”
“By holding this world, you can actually push your fingers up through into the world by using the rear touch on the Vita. It doesn’t require any interface because the world is just there for you to push yourself into. So much of the game is about this completely unusual intersection of the fantasy of the game world with the reality of the world that pushing your fingers into.”
“The game is just one way that we’re showing how these two worlds can smash together in this completely new way.”

“The game is just one way that we’re showing how these two worlds can smash together in this completely new way.” – Once this game is finished they need to recruit the team to do the same with SCEE and SCEA!
Am liking where this game is going and very much looking forward to such a unique way to play! Much like Naughty Dog – when Media Molecule are behind a title it will set new levels of the quality we shall come to expect from the Vita.

Really can’t wait for this title! Actually more interested in this than I am in LittleBigPlanet Vita…

The game looks fantastic, and the twist of augmenting the game with reality (our fingers), instead of the obvious other way around, makes it unique in this generation.First day buy for the family!
