Are you enjoying the latest Hitman game? Good, because there is another one on the way but it is being developed by Square Enix Montreal instead of IO. “It’s the first time you could say Hitman has gone out of the house,” said Hitman: Absolution director Tore Blystad.
“Luckily it’s with someone we know. Some of the key developers came from IO and have been working on previous games so it’s not like it’s in completely new hands.” He then went on to compare the development to – oh dear – Call Of Duty. “It’s like with Treyarch and Infinity Ward,” says Blystad. “You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as somethings that stand out. I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out”.
Hopefully this does not mean a Hitman game each year.
Crytek UK, formely Free Radical, have revealed why Timesplitters 4 was not picked up a by a publisher, the answer is the god-awful PS3 launch shooter ‘Haze’. “We pitched it to a lot of publishers, and from each of them we got the same two responses,” said Crytek UK managing director Karl Hilton. “Firstly, they would ask what happened with Haze. We were the company that made a series of high-rated shooters and then we had released Haze, which wasn’t as well received. Secondly, their marketing person would say something alone the lines of, ‘I don’t know how to sell this.'”
