Seriously, it’s a great launch line-up, especially if you’ve not owned a PS3 or 360 for a little while, and the couple of first party titles available at launch are very Nintendo.
However, it’s the pricing of the games that’s a little disappointing, with many third party titles appearing on the high street shelves at £50 or so. That’s £50 for – in some cases, like Batman: Arkham City and Darksiders 2 – rather old games.
RRP can be troublesome thing, but naturally you can buy most of the games for around a tenner less if you shop around, especially online. But Nintendo’s own download version, the eShop, is sticking to those top-end prices.
So, New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land will both run you £49.99, along with the aforementioned Darksiders 2 and EA’s latest footy game. Thankfully SEGA’s All-Stars Racing, which we reckon is the best karting game this year, is there for a bit less – £39.99, but that’s still £10 more than it is on the PSN for PS3.
At least it’s a decent selection – Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is there (£37.49), Just Dance 4 (£39.99) and the first compilation title – something the Wii had plenty of – is present and correct with “30 Great Games” for just £27.99.
In terms of eShop only titles, Trine 2 is available for £10.99, Puddle for £7.99, Little Inferno is £12.99, Chasing Aurora is £10.79 and the great looking Nano Assault Neo is a penny under £9.
Update: apparently Ubisoft are wanting £55 for ZombiU and Assassin’s Creed III.

I picked my Wii U up this afternoon, and y’know so far I’m really totally sure about it.
Took me quite a while to connect to my Wi-fi,even thought it might be broken at one point (had to set it up manually with instructions from a public forum as it doesn’t like some routers…. my psvita, xbox360, ps3 never had that problem, very odd)
Then that day 1 patch—-jeez we thought Sony were bad! Took 2 hours to download…then had to install..Only got to play Zombi U just now and yeah it’s pretty great but even that had 20-30 minute update before it.
Also takes an age (well about 5-10 seconds, which compared to even handhelds is a long time) to open some apps and the same when you go back to the start menu once you close them.
I’m finding the whole experience a bit clunky to be honest, not what I expected from a new console…perhaps I’m being a bit harsh. but can’t see “casual” gamers persisting with it at all as it is.
It is making me appreciate how slick the vita is on the whole.
Guess I can always e-bay it when the inevitable shortage happens in a few weeks if I don’t come round to it…that’s what I keep telling myself anyway.

My Wii U didn’t have a problem connecting to my router, but my 3DS and DS Lite have never liked it so I wonder if there’s something about Nintendo’s software/hardware…
My update took 50 minutes which seems to have been par for the course, but none of the game updates have been too bad (I do have fibre optic broadband though so it should be faster). Installs seem slightly faster than PS3 ones, but they’re certainly still an annoyance.
The app load time hasn’t really put me off to be honest, though generally I’m not jumping in and out of all the menus. In actuality the ability to jump from a game to Miiverse and back is very smooth.
I think as a first version of the OS it’s perfectly serviceable and has some very cool features that will help set it apart once the early problems have been ironed out.
