If you’re not entirely sold on the new Tomb Raider game, Crystal Dynamics have released an eleven minute walkthrough of a section of the game. This section is dubbed “Monastery Escape” and features, well, Lara Crofts’ attempted escape from a monastery. Though there’s a lot more to be seen.
As far I’m aware, it carries on a bit further than the same gameplay sections that we’ve seen before – beyond the parachuting, anyway.
You naturally should avoid this if you’re wanting to go in spoiler-free, though it should give you a good impression of the game. It’s all very Uncharted which some people would mistakenly call an ironic statement but just look at those cliff hanging animations and set pieces.
It seems a lot more dark and brutal than any of Nathan Drake’s adventures, however, with Lara being impaled through her neck and getting some bloody kills with a shotgun.
The game is out next month – March 5th – on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

I’ll buy this for sure, it’ll be a blast – but it’s not got the polish of a Naughty Dog production. The little things like her hair clipping through her body (badly), or the completely clinical death animations for every NPC make it feel just that tad underdone. I’m only saying this as a directly comparison with Uncharted, not trying to be a Debby Downer.
After one viewing the video albeit short had me wondering if there will be disconnects throughout.

Where she is walking through the watery tunnel Lara pulls a fiery torch out of her sodden snatch.
Ok.
At the end of the video she gets “new gear aquired”; a lighter. Hmm. That’ll come in real handy considering she already has the ability to light pieces of wood on fire underwater with her own genitalia.

I just don’t remember seeing that kind of incongruous progression in Uncharted games, nor immersion breakers like lighting wooden torches underwater, correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve swung between “Can’t wait for this!” and “Probably gonna end up being a third-rate Uncharted rip-off!” since it was announced. This trailer is pointing me towards “Can’t wait!” at the moment. Nevermind Uncharted rip-off, anyone seen Arrow on Sky One? The bits where he’s on the island???
