Sources Suggest Microsoft Will Show Next Xbox In April

Sony went first largely pulling off their next generation reveal without a huge amount of fuss this week in New York. Microsoft, obviously, aren’t going to hang around and let the PS4 get all the limelight though. Nope, they’re going to do something similar, soon.

According to “publishing and development” sources, a one-off event just like Sony’s is currently penciled in for April, at which the new Xbox will be shown.

And curiously, CVG say that some of the sources appear to be Sony employees. One such employee, currently hiding in a bunker somewhere away from the watchful eyes of the higher-ups, said that the company “definitely ruffled some feathers.”

GDC in March is also a likely venue for at least some next-gen chatter from Redmond.

  1. For me Microsoft need to unveil a string on new and varied IP. I’ve owned every PlayStation so it will take something to make me switch. If it lacks in games they could offer all the features in the world and I wouldn’t care.

At a minimum they need equivalents of Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Journey, LBP, Modnation Racers, Ratchet & Clank and God of War.

Those holes in their games roster when they don’t have the big advance in features and online capabilities.

  2. MS needs to scrap their plans for blocking preowned games or having that always online DRM(May have been the PS4 that was rumoured to have it, if so, ignore this) as it would result in them struggling to sell it, even before it’s released. They do need to drop their policy of buying timed exclusives and instead, focus on having their own exclusives to display what their console is capable of. As the 360 barely has any at the moment. :S As well as ensuring that they don’t focus too much on Kinect 2.

I wonder if they will do what Sony did and not show us the console? It will be interesting to see what it will turn out to be.

  3. It will be interesting to see how the consoles compare, MS know Sony have set the benchmark high, so it will be great to see how they react!

  4. I’m certainly interested in seeing what they’ve come up with. Kinect 2 could be interesting seeing as Sony’s new dual camera system still requires the player to hold something to help track their position (ie the light bar on the new controller).
I expect to see many similarities feature wise, although Smart Glass may have lost it’s thunder slightly by now a least all three consoles will be able to deliver similar features making multiplatform games easier to develop.
    I bet they’ll show the box.. :/

  5. I’m sure the tech inside will be comparable with what we know about the PS4, and I’m sure XBL will be improved just as much as the PSN. If this gen has tought us anything its that both are willing to get the same features as the other. So it really boils down to who can run a better “hearts and minds” advertizing campaign. MS has alot of options one of which is backwards compatibility. BC along with the demo for every game philosophy can go a long ways to eliminate the lack of game streaming. Plus MS isn’t afraid to spend some money so if they want streaming or another feature they can always buy their way in. It’ll be interesting to see what MS has up their sleeves and how they present their new console. But in all actuality Just because Sony did a mock reveal first doesn’t mean Sony is back on top. Theres still alot more 360 owners ready to upgrade to next-gen than PS3 owners.
