Assassin’s Creed Screenshot Mistaken For Real Damascus Skyline On Danish TV

Danish news channel, TV2, aired an Assassin’s Creed screenshot to showcase the Damascus skyline following recent unrest in Syria. The image was mistakenly thought to be a real photograph by one of the show’s researchers.

Not bad for a game that released in 2007, one could say.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. The BBC used the Halo 4 logo instead of the UN’s during a broadcast, and ITV used ArmA 2 footage to depict real life footage.

The station’s Head Of News said “it was a terrible mistake and a ‘reminder to us all of the importance of verifying the sources of pictures.'”

  1. When did you become a writer Orgiami? :O If you abandon us forum regulars, we will make you pay! Oh and don’t do TC’s induction. Just don’t.

Anyway, how the hell did they confuse a 2007 game for the real thing? Did no-one check to see if they made a mistake or anything? On the plus side, the media is not claiming games are the route of all evil for once. I think ITV are still in the lead for obvious footage/screenshots from a game that they tried to pass off as the real thing. ;)

    • As a said on twitter, on a trial run at the moment. Really cool to see TSA behind the scenes :)

      • I applied too, bit disappointed with the site that I didn’t even get an email back acknowledging it but I realise that everyone on here is busy and has there daily lives to lead.

  2. Saw this earlier and I’m still not sure how no one noticed the city has changed in the last several hundred years. Halo 4’s logo is still my favourite but I’m still holding out for a cut scene from heavy rain to get played instead of a weather report.

  3. What? How does this even happen?

  4. Next it’ll be shots of CODMW to show Kim Johg Il testing his nukes;p

  5. I see the Danish media is still utterly useless… -.-

  6. So they just lifted a picture of the internet and used it? Not verifying the source is no surprise as media would lose half their stories if they started doing that. But they also used a picture without finding and getting permission from the copyright holders.

How often do they steal other peoples work, and not get in trouble because that work is a genuine photo?

  7. Dansk djävlarna!
