Ubisoft have announced the collector’s editions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, along with the first gameplay trailer of the upcoming title which was recently confirmed for pretty much everything – Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
A new VIP program from Ubisoft called THE WATCH was also announced.
The four (count ’em) collector’s editions all offer different items and are available from different retailers. There’s the “Black Chest Edition” which is a Uplay exclusive, the “Buccaneer Edition” (exclusive to GAME and GameStop), The “Skull Edition” (everywhere) and the rather obviously named “Special Edition” (again, a GAME exclusive).
Black Chest Edition:
- Premium Quality 55 cm Diorama of Captain Edward on the Jackdaw’s Bow
- Exclusive SteelBook
- High-quality artbook
- The official soundtrack
- 2 Lithographs in their protective envelope
- 2 canvas prints
- All existing additional Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Unlockable In-Game Content, including single player missions, skins and weapons
- Collector’s box
- Physical pirate booty including a map and a replica Black Flag
The Buccaneer Edition:
- Premium Quality Edward Kenway Figurine on the Jackdaw’s Crow’s Nest
- High-quality artbook
- The official soundtrack
- 2 Lithographs in their protective envelope
- Collector’s box
- Additional Unlockable In-game Content
The Skull Edition:
- Collector Jumbo Steel Case
- High-quality artbook
- The official soundtrack
- 2 Lithographs in their protective envelope
- Unlockable In-game Content
The Special Edition, apparently not quite aptly named, will be at the standard price and “includes unlockable in-game content only available at game launch.”
THE WATCH (all caps) – link here – is bonus in-game content for pre-orders from certain retailers (Game, Amazon and GameStop in Ireland) and will “go deeper into the Assassin’s Creed universe, granting exclusive access to additional information, bonus content, rewards and the opportunity to take part in an exclusive quest designed specifically for VIP members.”

Special editions aren’t so special when the game comes out every year…and it’s full of junk.

Do assassin’s creed trailers always have commentary? Seems a little weird.
cc_star
And it repeats itself like it’s two separate bits of footage sellotaped together.
Origami Killer
Strange, still hasn’t interested me.
Origami Killer
The trailer that is. Not a fan of the American setting. Hence why I’m yet to play 3.

You have to admit ubi adverts are so good they make you want go buy the game lol
gazzagb
Looks really good, I hope the PC version launches simultaneously with the console versions, so annoying to have to wait a month and try to avoid spoilers.

“Gilbert!”
(Commentary sounded like Greg Davies)
Tuffcub
No its not, it’s gravelly and boring as fuck monologue chap. I have no idea who he was but he wasn’t Greg.
tactical20
Yeah, I know it wasn’t him, just reminded me of him, lol!
Tuffcub
Wondered when they would release this.
Comedy – and mysteriously evapoarating – bloody spurts at 0.47!
It does marginally better on second viewing but still looks horrendously dated to me.
yiddo
Game looks fantastic. I wonder if that’s PS4 footage.
Tuffcub
Erm.. no. That’s Xbox.
yiddo
Where’s the confirmation?
Origami Killer
The ad is for the PS3, 360 and Wii U version
yiddo
It says PS4 at the end too?
Origami Killer
But says “also coming” which to me suggests that this trailer isn’t next gen.
yiddo
They say ‘also coming’ as they don’t want to do Microsoft’s job of announcing the next Xbox.

I think this looks really great. I wonder if the PS4 version will look noticeably better.
