Nintendo’s Network Maintenance Might Mean Some Downtime Today

Nintendo is readying its big update for the Wii U. As part of that process, the company has posted on its maintenance page for the UK that their network will be undergoing maintenance today and some services may be intermittently unavailable for periods of the day.

The Wii U update is the expected Spring patch that will reduce the fairly poor system loading times, allow transfer of data between two USB drives and allow background downloading of software while the system is playing games or in standby mode.

The maintenance session is planned to last from approximately 9PM this evening to 3AM in the middle of the night and it will affect the Wii Shopping Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop as well as the Wii U and 3DS eShops.

According to a Nintendo of America Facebook posting, the launch of the Wii U’s Virtual Console service is supposedly coming tomorrow, at least in the US, so it’s possible that this maintenance also paves the way for that.

  1. When I read “Wii Shopping Channel” I always picture Mario and Luigi trying to flog 100% Diamante earings or a marvellous new food processor you didn’t know you must have.
