I’ve checked the date three times now, just in case I was hit by a car on my way home from the shops this morning and I’ve slipped into some very disappointing Life on Mars situation where it’s actually April 1st again. It’s not though, it’s definitely not April Fool’s Day.
What’s prompted this insecurity in the perceived linearity of time? Well, there’s a news story on Polygon about Pizza Hut and Kinect. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s a news story or a sponsored ad, it’s not marked but it’s also without any sense of irony. This is a story that just keeps on confusing.
Anyway, Pizza Hut and Xbox have seemingly partnered to provide owners of Microsoft’s console with the opportunity to order from the food chain’s menu, directly on their Xbox 360. You can create your order using voice commands, a controller or Kinect and save your preferences to your Xbox and Pizzahut.com accounts for ease of repeat ordering in the future. Hey, you can even share what you’ve ordered with your Facebook friends, if you’ve synced that account.
I’m not making this up, I promise.
Larry Hryb, Microsoft’s Major Nelson, even said that the app opens up “tremendous entertainment options” aside from what the Xbox 360 is now known for. Entertainment? From ordering a pizza? Okay.
Look, I’m not usually one to be flippant about more easily available pizza. I’ll always be an advocate for having readily accessible junk food at all times. But this seems a bit… weird to me. Who is sitting in front of their Xbox thinking that they’d order a large stuffed crust with extra italian sausage if only they had a simple way of doing it? Lift the phone, order from your computer or smartphone. Even, and I say this with the greatest of respect, take your lardy arse outside of the house and pick up your own pizza from the shop.
Apologies if that’s not tremendously entertaining enough for you…

2005… Were pizza’s even invented back then?

Seriously? Who will be lazy enough to order a pizza from their Xbox? instead of using a little device called a phone, dialing the number and ordering it within a few minutes. I’m pretty sure using a phone to order it is a lot quicker then doing it via a console. Or even better, get off yer arse and go out to get one.
