Do you remember Tuesday? Well, on the off chance you’ve forgotten, we’re here with our special Xbox One podcast to recap Microsoft’s big reveal. Even if you haven’t forgotten the events that unfolded earlier, this week this audio delight is still worth a listen, as we’ve also got some analysis of just what Microsoft’s new console might mean for the industry and for gamers.
[drop2]Unfortunately we’re lacking Lewis in this episode, but don’t worry because Peter, Kev and I sat down last night to share our thoughts on the Xbox One and on the way that Microsoft’s reveal went down. Of course, it’s mixed in with some normal light hearted banter, as the mighty batraptor to the right shows, but we do our best to stay on topic for once.We also take your questions on the Xbox One for the last twenty-five minutes of the episode, so make sure to listen if you dropped us any talking points via Twitter.
Finally, there’ll be no podcast on Monday, as we’ve decided to focus our attention on the Xbox One this week. Don’t worry, we’ll be back on the 3rd of June with our normal mix of games, movies, comics and lunacy.
- Please send us questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
- You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week.
This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.
- As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
- You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
- Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.
For the first time, we’re trying out soundcloud as a way to put the podcast in this page as an alternative way for you to listen. Please let us know in the comments if this is something you’d like us to continue or if you’re happy grabbing it as a direct download or via an iTunes subscription.

I don’t mind downloading the podcast but it’s great to be able to listen via the site. Great work guys ;)

I usually skip these because of my own time constraints – but i’m finding the whole xbox one debate very interesting so i’ll defo listen to this weeks cast!
Peter Chapman
Does having it embedded on the page with the SoundCloud thing make it easier for you to listen?
We want as many people as possible to listen, comment and get involved with the podcast so value any feedback!
Alex C
yes.
JR.
Yes much better, thanks
Tuffcub
OK heres the same feedback as last week. THATS STILL THE OLD INTRO MUSIC. *sigh*
Peter Chapman
@TC – yes, it is, but I think that’s because the “new” intro music has someone saying it’s the 100th episode, we need a “clean” version of your reboot :)

Embedding with Soundcloud is a cool feature which i’m sure many will find very handy – although whenever i have grabbed the podcast it’s been no inconvenience to download the mp3 direct to my PS3.
Practically for me though there’s no difference – i still can’t listen to it at work :)
Gonna grab it now and will comment again later.
TheDeathAvenger
Yep love having it embedded on the page with SoundCloud. I mean I could just download the mp3 and then listen, but for some reason I really do prefer it this way.

Don’t you guys dare make XBone (“Ecs-Bone”) a thing! It sounds bloody awful. Like some sort of painful procedure you have done at A&E when you’ve been playing with your sister’s Barbie Doll and a tub of E45 a little too vigorously.
:-)
Kennykazey
It’s already a thing I’m afraid. I’ve seen it used across the internet for a couple of days.
I think I’ll have a listen later today, I like specials.
bunimomike
No. No! We can undo it. X1 (written) is lovely and it’s only two syllables like “X-Bone” but sounds less silly. Damn you, Kenny. :-P
Kris Lipscombe
Xone (pronounced Zone) is the future.
bunimomike
That sounds so 80s which kinda makes sense if you look at he hardware.
Oh! Hahah.
Kev: “Tony Blair is quite a gesture-based guy!”
He’s made of gestures, eh? Haha. :-)
Alex C
Xbone in articles will be automatically filtered out from this point onwards, and changed to “Xbox One”.
Hate it.
bunimomike
Whilst I’d normally say “no censorship” I can’t help but approve. ;-)

Haha that’s awesome Alex.

The “tamagochi” (don’t know if I wrote it correctly) was mental xD Too bad I cannot say anything objectively in the XboxOne topic. Like I wrote in other comments: even if with XboxOne you would get immortality and a lifetime dosage of Nutella, due to the fact that I basically have triangle-cross-square-circle blood cells ^^.
What I can say that after everything so far, the new Microsoft console has not shown anything the least degree interesting. Even in the current gen era there were E3 conferences from Microsoft in which I said: “OK, this is something”. But here? Xbox go home.

Embedded podcast is great, thanks guys :)

just call it Xbox Juan! Gives it a spicy flavour and all :D

wouldn’t that be Batraptor?
i usually middle click on the download link and the podcast plays in the browser, but the soundcloud thing is cool.
would commenting on this page reset the stream though?
the actual reveal was, for me, underwhelming, but it wasn’t completely horrible.
it was all the news that came after that really turned me right off the machine.
and don’t forget that in all likelihood, all these tv features will require gold as well as their own separate subscriptions.
the two OS thing, haven’t they reserved 3 gig of the 8 gig ram for the secondary.
that could be a problem for multiplatform titles couldn’t it?
with PS3 and 360 there wasn’t any significant differences in the two machines when it came to what they could do.
but with 3 gig less on x1 it could make a big difference.
didn’t it take them over a year to enable voice recognition for Australia for the original kinect?
Kev, i think that little girl was called Elmira.
Elvira was a big breasted women wearing a long black, very , low cut dress who was supposed to be the host of a late night horror movie show.
they made a movie based on the character.
don’t the US have one of the largest military forces on the planet?
you’d think they’d be less invadable than most countries?
hell, even most of the citizenry have high powered weaponry.
i think you mean Nikola Tesla, not Kessler.
unless you’re thinking of Infamous of course.
what i usually do is listen to the podcast while playing minecraft, then add to to my comment when something comes up i have an opinion on.
as you can tell, it does mean my comments can be very long.
i’m still waiting for my Wall-O-Text™ patent to go through. ^_^
anyway.
i would have been interested in the x1, despite the underwhelming reveal.
it’s all the stuff that’s come out after that i don’t like.
the mandatory installs of every single game.
the once a day drm.
and the preowned thing.
i still don’t know what’s going on there.
every time they try to clarify the issue, they seem to make it more confusing.
i don’t think there’s any definitive answer for this on the PS4 yet, but at least Sony didn’t come out with half a dozen contradictory answers in the days after their reveal.
it does mean E3 should be especially interesting this year.
it’s been a bit meh the last couple of years.
Peter Chapman
I WAS thinking of the character from inFamous!
TheDeathAvenger
Yep submitting a comment while playing the embed stream does reset it. Presumably the page reloads in order to update.
Kevatron400
Just a thought here Haz, the embedded player lets you comment at a particular section, by clicking the “add your comment at…” part of the player. Might be a great way to interact with the podcast in the embedded future. It might not though – I’m not sure yet. Obviously the comment wouldn’t be seen in the post unless you’re listening to the ‘cast or hovering over the comments.
TSBonyman
Well, i managed about half way .. :)
I’ve heard someone refer to the new xbox as the XO.
From what i’ve read around the webs, many 360 owners may have found Sony’s reveal more appealing by default, after the somewhat numbing Microsoft reveal. Not just because there were too few games shown but i think mainly because of the ‘always-online’ DRM and having to pay to play pre-owned games. Sony have yet to show their full hand on this subject though.
If Sony are going down the same route with pre-owned i think they should speak up sooner rather than later or it will seem like they’ve been misleading us. If they ARE doing the same, my gaming future will be very uncertain indeed.. :/
