You’ll probably want to resign yourself to these kind of stories. The “Our machine is X times more powerful” story is a staple of pre-release next generation consoles and generally persists for a year or two after release too.
I’ve seen people casually claiming that the PlayStation 4 is 1.5 times more powerful than the Xbox One. Microsoft is claiming that the Xbox One is ten times more powerful than the Xbox 360. It’s all a bit silly but it serves a purpose: to give misinformed fanboys something to spout on forums. We suspect this claim will crop up in a few of the next gen console wars, despite how ridiculous it is.
A Spokesperson for Microsoft, Adam Pollington, has told an Australian site called Stevivor.com that the Xbox One makes clever use of The Cloud to augment its processing power. He claims, in what I really hope was just a throwaway number he plucked out of the air in passing conversation, that it makes the Xbox One’s processing power 40 times greater than the Xbox 360.
“It’s also been stated that the Xbox One is ten times more powerful than the Xbox 360, so we’re effectively 40 times greater than the Xbox 360 in terms of processing capabilities [using the cloud].” He said, after an interview that mostly just quotes the somewhat confused company line on things like always-on and used game sales.
Pollington went on to say “if you look to the cloud as something that is no doubt going to evolve and grow over time, it really spells out that there’s no limit to where the processing power of Xbox One can go.” That emphasis would go some way to implying that a constant internet connection – while perhaps not required – would be something that’s so beneficial so as to eventually become almost essential.

The pushing of cloud-based solutions for a product so heavily represented in a country with such expensive and relatively limited broadband access seems a bit of a strange decision. I have several friends in the States and those that live away from the extremes of the western and eastern seaboards are constantly complaining about their internet speeds. One friend of mine, living in Colorado, pays about £70 a month for broadband that he says averages at around 3-4Mb/s. Those sorts of speeds would make cloud based calculation augmentation pretty much pointless.

Aye right Microsoft. That’s Bollocks. (IMO)
40x more powerful my a**e.
And what if you haven’t got an internet connection…….Oh aye, you can watch TV. :P

Apparently not with its every 24hr check-in lol. But seriously this is all a pipe dream for Microsoft right now.

In an Arnie accent: “The system goes on-line December 4th 2013. Human decisions are removed from home gaming. Microsoft Cloud begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, December 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.”

….and the internal hard drive becomes corrupted! :)

What happens if the game you are playing that needs the cloud and you lose your connection, does the game run in a lower state or does it just stop completely?
Sounding more and more like ‘always on’ to me.

Spokesperson for Xbox? I wonder how long it takes for some other spokesperson for Xbox to contradict him?

40x the power? um, no. Stop it…….. now.
A quick Google shows he has a degree in marketing.
Nuf said.

Until everyone on the planet or everyone that will use the Xbox One has at least 20mbit internet access, then cloud computing is useless.
The Von Braun
Ahhh but can it:
-Render 75 Million Polygons Per Second? (Sony PS2 claim).
-Animate over 850 Million Pixels Per Second? (Atari Jaguar Claim).
-Output 2X 1080P, 60 FPS images ? (Sony PS3 claim)
If the answer to 1 or more of the above is no…..go back and learn to hype properly :-)

I am seriously saddened by the Xbox one, I agree with all whom say I want evidence. Right now my money is on the PS4, can anyone explain to me the really really good points that xbox has got over ps4? just interested, been listening to my Brother, he seems positive that PS4 sounds better.
