There’s been some whispering around Ubisoft and a racing game since at least March of this year. Most of that has been confined to French forums and websites like JeuxActu. Now, it seems like those rumeurs are bubbling over into the English-speaking world wide web.
The Examiner is reporting on a couple of rumours, extrapolating from the mention of an unknown game in an Ubisoft earnings call and coming up with an E3 reveal.
They’ve also got their own source, apparently, although that particular peddlar of secrets is remaining masked for now. Apparently it’s a “realistic title, possibly being positioned against Forza and Gran Turismo,” and it’ll be out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with some possibility for a current-gen console release too.
With a new PS3 Gran Turismo game on the horizon, Drive Club on PS4 and Forza 5 already confirmed for Xbox One, it’s difficult to see a comfortable space for a third party racer on the more serious side of the genre. That said, some of the driving in Driver: San Francisco was fun and very well made so even though that’s not comparable in terms of realism, it might be a good omen for whatever Ubisoft Reflections – the studio linked by some rumours – is working on.

The last good “serious” third party racer was Enthusia from Konami and it was great, always good to see more racing games being made, look forward to seeing what this is about :)

As long as they nail the handling, I’m interested. Can never have too many quality racers :)

they could make so many that they form a mountain and then one day when you’re standing nearby a car exhaust backfires and starts a gameslide and you get buried and crushed under tons of games.
would that be too many? ^_^
seriously though, handling is all important in a racer.
it will be the making or breaking of the game, despite the racing genre not being the most populated it is one of the most competitive.
how many racing games have we seen fall by the wayside in the last few years?
a few have taken their studios down with them.
it’ll be interesting to see what they can bring to the genre.

Intriguing ‘rumeurs’ indeed!
Toca Touring cars® would work for me *thinks wishingly* :P

Man, I’d love to see TOCA make a comeback on PS3 or even better PS4. ;)

Lol, I was just thinking outside of the box mate, mind drifted off to a faraway past. Won’t happen, Codies were the last to see the Toca® licence before it was abducted and spirited away t’dungeon! :P
Broonba
Aye, but I can wish, cant I? ;P

Really great use of rumeurs .

Pure Football anyone?
Whilst the idea of a new Racing Sim does indeed excite the senses, I still have a bad taste left over from their attempt at football.
Assassins Creed and anything Tom Clancy based then hell yeah! Except End War, you stay in the corner and hide in shame,

I think there’s quite a bit to do for a realistic racer (and make a great game of it). I guess the makers of Drive Club think so too. Fingers crossed another great game makes it to the genre so there’s healthier competition than ever before.

I have a lot of trust with reflections in the past, they really know how to make good driving physics. Driver SF handling was great IMO
Can’t wait to see more on this!

Wow, are racers going to be the new FPSs? I would love a next gen rally game…
