Sony Detail Indie Strategy for PS4

A big indie love-in.

Sony have just shown some indie love in their E3 conference. In addition to indie developers being able to self publish on the Playstation 4, which is fantastic and huge news, a selection of indie games have been announced as coming to the next gen platform.

Don’t Starve (Indie Focus here), Mercenary Kings, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Ray’s the Dead, Oddworld: New’n’Tasty, Galak-Z, Super Ponchos and Outlast will all debut exclusively on the PS4.

Also announced for PS4 was Transistor, the latest game from the developers of Bastion, Super Giant Games. You can see the trailer for that below.

Update: also in the conference, Sony have confirmed that Don’t Starve, Outlast and Super Ponchos will be available as part of PlayStation Plus in the first year of PS4 (presumably at their respective launches).

  1. Don’t Starve looks like a fantastic game from the Youtube videos i’ve seen of it.

and they’ll be giving it away as part of the plus sub, outstanding.

  2. I liked the presentation of the indie games in the show. Much better than Microsoft’s commitment to indie games shown in their conference (i.e. Minecraft on XB1 and… that’s it).
Looking forward to Don’t Starve, Octodad and that space shooter (Galak-Z ?)

  3. Great stuff

Sony need to win the battle for hearts & minds of independent developers.

So let’s hope gamers are as enthusiastic as Sony & put their money where their mouth is & make PlayStation the goto platform for devs helping create buzz and a vibrant ecosystem

  4. I can not wait for Outland, love horror games, Also super poncho’s looks really cool, love the idea and setting of that one.

  5. All the Indie games that were shown during Sony’s conference looked great, so if that’s any indication as to the quality we can expect then “next gen” is gonna be amazing.
