There’s no doubt that The Last Of Us has been one of the biggest hits of this generation. The story of Ellie and Joel as they traverse across a desolate and dangerous America really managed connect with people all over. However the ending that we’re treated to was not always the one that could have been in the final product.
At PAX Prime Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman and Bruce Straley will be holding a panel about how they pitched The Last Of Us to Sony, and the processes they went through to bring the game to the PS3. In the official panel description there’s also a very interesting statement.
“Neil and Bruce will pull back the curtain to show you their original pitch for The Last of Us… and giving everyone at this panel a look at how close or far the final game ended up from the original pitch.”
Following this revelation Neil Druckman tweeted an image that hints at the alternate ending. This could be considered a spoiler of sorts so if you don’t want to see it then stop reading now.
For the rest of you, behold.
So, what are your theories to what this image could mean? We’ll find out in a few weeks but guessing is always fun.

I think if the original ending is revealed I’ll keep my ears covered. The current ending was beautiful and I don’t want to spoil that.

I’m interested to know what it is but I’m glad they went with the one they did. I agree, that ending showed humanity, emotion and love. A combination of strength and overwhelming weakness all told with few words.
I can’t imagine any alternative would work that well.

I agree with others here, the ending was pitched just right in my opinion, but leaves the door just ajar for a sequel.
