Speaking to IGN, Sony’s President Of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, has put the brakes on hopes of the forthcoming Gran Turismo 6 coming to Vita.
“The PS Vita is a very powerful portable system” praised Yoshida, before saying of the game “it really is using PS3 to a very high level. So it’s going to be really hard to move GT6 onto PS Vita.”
“I don’t expect the whole game to be able to run on PS Vita. So there’s no clear plans right now” concluded Yoshida.
Another deciding factor may be the previous Gran Turismo handheld title, which was reportedly a struggle to develop, and ultimately didn’t fare all that well in the market. The PSP release was (not uncharacteristically) delayed, before eventually releasing in 2009 to rather mediocre reception from critics and fans alike.
It may not all be doom and gloom for fans of the “Real Driving Simulator” though; Speaking earlier this year, Gran Turismo’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi said “We actually do have a PS4 version in mind” – which may well be the Vita’s saving grace.
If GT6 ever finds its way onto Sony’s next-gen machine – all things being good and well – the game will be playable in it’s entirety via the PS4 & Vita’s Remote Play feature.
So, GT6 is not coming to Vita, except, maybe it is, but only if you buy a £350 PS4. Gran Turismo on Vita is essentially Donkey Kong Country 64 and the Vita is a Ram-Pack then. Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1999.

GT:PSP was good but it’s one of those games that needs a big screen.

I didn’t mind the screen size of the PSP but I never worked out how to connect my driving wheel.

Agreed, simulation racers are meant give a feel for real driving that can’t possibly be replicated or given the justice they deserve on a handheld. Arcade racers are perfect for portables, even the PSP version of Gran Turimo was arcaded up.

Even Sony don’t have faith in the vita so what hope is there for third party.
Regardless they can make a vita version of GT, they did a psp version.

It seems like a flimsy excuse, like you say they got it on the PSP and apart from the lack of direction it was a fantastic achievement. Nurburgring in your pocket!
A lot of the best Vita games are now indies, which dont redlly demand power and could possibly be ported to the PSP. Sony need to keep an eye on that.

Starting to get the feeling with the Vita that I’ve bought a console that won’t have many games releasing for it in a year or so. If Sony don’t think its worth the effort making one of their biggest series for it then what’s the chances of anyone else bothering for much longer?
And the whole “remote play on ps4” is a terrible kop out.

Can’t say I think GT on Vita would be that great. The small analogue controls would give nowhere near the same feel and control as a console remote, let alone a full on driving wheel. It’s just not the right game.
