For those looking to pick up three of the biggest launches this year, GAME has detailed a rather tempting trade-in offer prior to their next-gen release.
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners who were perhaps looking to hold back on buying the current generation version of either Call Of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14 or Battlefield 4 – instead opting for the PS4 or Xbox one release – now really have no excuse. “Why wait?” the promotion says. Why wait indeed.
In marketing material tweeted earlier, it’s been revealed that gamers who buy the current-gen titles will be able to trade-up to next-gen on release, with their pre-played game still being worth a “guaranteed £40 trade-in value”.
With all three of the shown titles having previously been announced to have most (if not all) of their player data stored in the ‘cloud’ – meaning statistics and XP will carry over when you upgrade – this seems like a no-brainer for gamers who were thinking about getting the titles for next-gen, and will certainly secure GAME a few crucial sales of those games (and of course, consoles).
FIFA 14 is due for release on PS3 and 360 come September 27th, with Battlefield 4 and Call Of Duty: Ghosts available on the 1st and 5th of November, respectively.

Wow if their trading them in for that much then pre-owned they are going to be a ridiculous price. Also I highly doubt the next gen versions will be less than £50 GAME will want to make a fair margin back if they are giving that much credit out.

Just found another interesting point in this offer.
“Offer ends 24/12/2012. IN STORES ONLY.”
Direct copy from the Ts and Cs, This offer has already expired and is only valid instore so all these online price on their website aren’t going to be the same as instore.

2012?
That is obviously a typo as those games weren’t even announced then.
Bugsy246
I know it is a typo, but trading standards wouldn’t see it that way.
For a big company like them to screw legalities up is a big deal.

Okay… I think this is a good deal depending on the price you buy the original game at. Scanning through the Ts and Cs and there’s nothing to say that the original game has to have been bought from GAME. Sure, the in store price for the Next Gen game might not be the cheapest, but I think this will help lower the cost (allowing you to get the points/XP before the new consoles drop).

I suppose it’s a good sales ploy, they could almost guarantee PS4 game pre-orders, and in some cases even a console to play said upgraded game on!
I’d rather wait until Sony announce their costs for upgrading to digital PS4 copies of PS3 versions, I’m sure it was reported in an earlier article around £10-£15 for one of the PS4 digital upgrades and you get to keep the PS3 retail verion….no brainer if that’s how it works!

Agreed. Sony’s digital prices are a bit of a joke but GAME make them look positively reasonable!

In fact, if you get to keep the current gen version, that’s going to add a nice sweetener to selling on your PS3!

Surely it will work out cheaper just to pay £10 for the digital version upgrade they are offering?

Meh, gonna wait for the PS4 version anyway. FIFA can wait, and BF4 especially can considering it comes out in November – the same month as the PS4 itself.
