Sony have just announced a new model of the PS Vita at their pre-TGS conference. While there’s no RAM changes as expected, the system has had a bit of a cosmetic makeover – it’s less shiny, with six new colours. It’ll be named the PCH-2000.
It’s also 20% thinner and 15% lighter, which is very impressive for what the system has achieved through Killzone: Mercenary recently. The new colours look good, too, with lime green, light blue, pink, white, beige and black all being available.
It’ll even have a longer battery life, allowing for around an hour more of gameplay, and it’ll charge via a standard micro USB port rather than the Vita’s strange connection. This will come at a cost, however, with Sony ditching the OLED screen in favour of LCD.
It comes with a 1GB memory card bundled in, but for those looking for much more space, Sony are introducing new 64GB memory cards along with the system on the 10th of October.
This is all just for Japan and Asia now, but we hope that they’ll come to the West soon. As for price, we’re talking 19,929 yen for the new Vita and 9,980 yen for the memory card.

Great, I only bought mine 17 days ago.
I’m not too fussed by most of the changes really, but that extra hour of battery life would be nice.

you get a better screen though man
SpikeyMikey23
i meant – because of the one you just bought, you have a better screen ;)

Not exactly “beyond your expectations” is it?

Is for me.

Glad the changes are only to the weight and size :P I always had my consoles as the “initial version”. My PSX was the grey one. The PS2 was fat, same with PSP, PS3, so it couldn’t be else with the PSV :)

Love the colors, the slimming down and better battery but I’m glad I have an OLED model.

Yeah, i’d imagine OLED to LCD is quite noticeable.

I don’t want to downgrade the screen for a bit lighter and a bit thinner. Happy how it is now but if this ends up cheaper that’s a good thing, more sales.

Meh. My thumbs hurt if I play mine for too long so I’m guessing smaller means more painful

Looks great, it’s a shame that the OLED is going but the weight loss will be very welcome. Hopefully it being thinner will help with hand cramp a bit, but I guess this shape of machine is always going make us suffer a bit if that. The yen price also converts to about £130, that can’t be bad.

I won’t be hurrying to upgrade, as tony said not fussed about size/weight for an inferior screen.
Also, I got stung doing this with my PSP, then they later released about 4 further models with integrated camera/mic…so I’ll wait for v3 or v4 thanks.
Great news about the memory cards, even if I did just buy a 32gb one. Will probably sell it and buy a 64gb one, if the prices isn’t ridiculous.

Is this somewhat of a reaction to the 2DS perhaps? Smart move.

Looks like it, similar price anyway – £128.
