Kevin Tancharoen Will Not Be Directing The Mortal Kombat Movie

Three years ago the above trailer arrived on the net sparking rumours that a Mortal Kombat movie was in the works, entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, and was being directed by Kevin Tancharoen. While the movie has not been made yet a web series entitled Mortal Kombat Legacy was instead created, and that was directed by Kevin Tancharoen. It’s a very good series that I encourage you to watch.

Over the weekend though Kevin Tancharoen tweeted some unexpected news regarding the Mortal Kombat movie, confirming he will not be at the helm of it.

This could be a major blow to the Mortal Kombat movie, with no heir apparent currently named to take over the project. The Rebirth trailer and the Legacy series have shown how well game to show adaptions can be done, but it takes the right person for the job.

With Kevin Tancharoen out of the picture who do you believe could be a viable replacement to take the Mortal Kombat movie forward?

  1. It’s a shame, although I enjoyed the first series (not seen the second yet), I felt that the initial concept shown above showed an interesting take. It took the characters away from the traditional set up and had some interesting design ideas too.

  2. Very good post. I definitely love this website. Keep writing!
