TSA’s First Look At Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag [Video]

We haven’t quite got our review for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag finished just yet. It’s a big game and we don’t want to rush it. But we equally didn’t want to leave you hankering after a little bit of TSA coverage as the embargo lifts and we’re allowed to show it off to you. So we made these two quick videos to show off some of the very early stages of the game.

This footage is all from the first half hour of the game so don’t panic about spoilers – as ever, TSA does its best to stay spoiler free.

The first video, above, shows Edward Kenway climbing his first tower to synchronise a little bit of the map in the Caribbean. Events transpire to carry our hero off to Havana pretty quickly but it’s worth having a poke around this tropical paradise before you set sail.

In this second video, which is over ten minutes long so get yourself a brew before you settle in to watch, we look at synchronising the towers in Havana. You’ll see Kenway running around the streets, climbing up walls and occasionally getting stuck in with some sword-happy Spaniards.

That’s all for now but our review will be along just as soon as we’ve given the game the time that it deserves.

  1. What platform is this captured from?

    • 360. Press B to synchronise.

      • Could be using a controller on PC.

      • Yep, it’s 360 debug code marked as review.

  2. I played a little of the first game but never returned. However, it’s one of those franchises that I feel deserves my time. Thing is… I’ve just watched the videos above and sat there thinking “bye, bye immersion” when you climb up a building (which looks stunning, by the way) with nary a word from the three people standing next to you as you leap from stone block to stone block and onto ledges, sills and god knows what else to propel yourself upwards. Then there’s the hilarious 150ft leap from the top into a cart of hay. People gathered around, doing their own thing as 80 kilos of bloke hits the cart at around a hundred miles per hour. What the (literally) flying fu**!?

Finally, there’s the very, VERY kind guards who are willing to wait their turn until they try to attack you instead of simply coming at you from all angles.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying taking the piss out of some very funny traits to the game but how can developers not get passed this with better-thought-out actions/reactions.

Still, the free climbing and worlds built always look a pleasure to get around.

  3. I’ve never completed an A.C. game ,played a few hours of the first game, half the second game and around two thirds of AC III, so they are definitely improving the formula in my eyes but i probably won’t rush to pick this one up.
