Could The PS4 Release One Week Early In Europe?

At the moment this all seems rather unlikely, but rumours are suggesting that the PS4 release date in Europe could now be the 22nd of November instead of the 29th. Obviously, this is a big change, but could just mean Sony have shipped the consoles earlier than expected.

A translated statement on the Italian website COplanet states:

A user of our forum has just received the call that GameStop has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 in Bundle with Killzone preordered by him will be available from November 22 and if you want to bring the games used for the promotion, thus anticipating a week of the date official launch date.

It’s likely that this just means that the customer can trade in their games a week before the launch, but GameStop apparently confirming that the console will be available on November 22nd suggests otherwise.

This would mean that the PS4 and Xbox One would release on the same day in European territories, going directly head-to-head, which would be brilliant to see.

We’ve contacted Sony and Amazon and are awaiting response.

UPDATE: Amazon have responded, stating that they do not comment on rumours or speculative news, but that PS4 orders are still planned for release on November 29th.

UPDATE 2: Adding more fuel to the fire, a poster over on Reddit has posted a screenshot of his ASDA UK order, which shows that the PS4 will release on November 22nd. Although, this could be someone posting an Xbox One order and trying to trick people.

The poster has since shared a new image, which shows that it is indeed a PS4 pre-order at ASDA.

UPDATE 3: ShopTo have described this rumour as “nonsense”, and a post on the PlayStation Blog still states November 29th as the release date, so I think this rumour can be considered false.

UPDATE 4: Well, we’ve had word that this is not something Sony’s UK team is aware of. That seems fairly solid evidence for it being a false rumour. Still, it gave us all a bit of a thrill on a dreary Friday, didn’t it? I’ll go back to staring at my calendar now.

  1. Naa, not gonna happen. It’ll stay as 29th and this is just a mix of mistakes and rumours.
But if it does change I’ll be raging. I’ve got 29th Nov booked off work specifically for PS3 and a little bit because of the Thanksgiving Thursday NFL schedule

  2. I hope not – I’ve booked time off work which I can’t change now.

  3. NOOOOOO! I’ve already booked my week off!

  4. ShopTo are are saying this is not true. Launch date still 29th.

  5. Doubtful but hopeful.

  6. I’d love it if this were true!

  7. As much as i hope this is true (i think this is going to be the longest 3 weeks ever) deep down i know it is rubbish.

  8. You can link it to the Hadouken Cabs. Cabs = released earlier and delivered to you. Hadouken = major punch in Microsoft’s face.
As Capcom confirms there is no plan for Street Fighter on PS4, this seems to be the best teasing idea for an early release of the PS4. Hadouken to Microsoft.

  9. Hope its true i cant bloody wait as is

  10. As it’s Gamestop I wonder if they’re going to do the same thing here as they’re doing in North America?

The company announced that it will be hosting pre-launch PS4 events on Sunday, November 10 at all U.S. GameStop store locations. The events will allow customers to bring in their pre-owned hardware, software, or consumer electronic trade-ins early to pay-off their pre-ordered Sony PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as purchase available games and/or accessories.

More likely than an early launch.
