PlayStation 4 Update 1.50 Is Available Now

Now I am sure you are wondering why we are telling you that the first and feature packed 308 MB update for the PlayStation 4 is available when we don’t get the console for another two weeks.

Well, you can get ready for the launch and download the patch to a USB drive and use that to update your console on the 29th, rather than download it from the PSN which is bound to be horrendously slow that day.

Create a folder named “PS4” on your USB drive and then inside that folder, create another folder named “UPDATE”. Right click save this file with the file name “PS4UPDATE.PUP” in the UPDATE folder and you will be set for launch day.

The patch includes the following features:

  • Remote Play using the PlayStation Vita
  • Second screen gaming using the PS4 Link app for PlayStation Vita and mobile devices
  • The ability to record and share screenshots and video
  • Use of Ustream and Twitch apps
  • The ability to play games as they are downloading
  • The ability for four users to log into the PS4 simultaneously
  • Party chat
  • Facial recognition and voice commands
  • A background music player
  • Online multiplayer through PlayStation Plus
  • Blu-ray disc and DVD player capabilities

  1. Nice idea and I am downloading this now. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were not one or two revisions before the EU launch, but at least we have a starting block.

  2. Does the USB pen still need to formatted to FAT32 for the PS4 to recognise it?

  3. Great stuff, thanks for the handy link.

  4. Its happening!

  5. I’ll probably download this, although I’m still not sure I’ll get a PS4 end of this month.
But first I’ll wait a little, as I’m quite sure there will soon be an updated version, once the results from the beta test area over there are in…

    • If you’ve not got one pre-ordered yet (and if that’s the reason you may not get one on 29th) according to my local GAME store (Edinburgh) they’ll have more PS4’s in stock before Christmas. Or you could try and get one pre-ordered from the new GAME store opening in Birmingham sometime soon.

  6. OMG an update that includes cross game chat,i never thought i’d see the day.

  7. Got mine downloading now. Can see it taking ages on the 29th.

  8. This will make things a lot easier on day one! Thanks Tuffcub

  9. A quick update to TC’s original article. The Playstation UK website now has an article with guide and download advertised for initialising your PS4 with the latest firmware 1.51 so anyone that was worried about downloading a US firmware version can get that day one firmware downloaded and readied before console release on ‘USB stick’ without any regional worries!

    Linky http://uk.playstation.com/home/news/articles/detail/item663036/Initialise-your-PS4-system/

    • Scratch that, they seem to have removed the article which leads me to think there might be issues over the regional question as the download link was directed to the US firmware page even though the advert was UK.
Editing by drop the dead donkey methinks!
