The previously troubled UK high-street retailer GAME has opened a dozen new stores and hired 4,500 staff in the run-up to Christmas, it has been announced.
Of the 12 new stores, four are permanent and eight are operating under a temporary lease – to help the firm meet the demand of not only Christmas, but also a new generation of consoles. Four other outlets have been relocated ahead of the busy holiday period.
“We constantly review our property portfolio to make sure we’re in the right places to deliver for the gaming communities of the UK,” Game Retail’s Dave Howard told MCV. “Christmas 2013 is going to be an incredibly important time for gamers with some amazing titles released and two new consoles launching.”
Whatever your feelings on GAME in particular, this is most certainly terrific news for everyone involved, be they staff or customer, and personally I’m extremely pleased to see the company have turned things around, especially given the tough time UK retail is experiencing at the moment.

Good on them, they’ve changed their mentality since they went under and I really appreciate it – I often find myself going to GAME and spending an extra fiver rather than buying online, providing they don’t push their prices too high.

Yes, a lot more savvy and intelligent since those heady days of two stores 100 yards apart in the same shopping centre….

There are still two in Cambridge which seems weird but the one in lions yard at least is always full. Generally the staff are lovely but they do have a really pushy young Git who works there…
But at least I use them now previously I had not been in game since the manager at the Norwich branch accused me if lying when a Graphics card I bought had a totally different one in the box…

4,500 new jobs is brilliant news, even if a proportion of that is only through Christmas. I can’t say I ever have the extra fiver spare to shop in their stores though. What with the recent issues of cancelled pre-orders, high priced bundles and poor Vita support however, online is the cheapest and easiest place to shop.

Had trouble with an online order in the past from GAME, and I always find their prices are higher than buying online. The job creation is great, but I for one won’t be using GAME in the future.

I’ll buy online and give the extra fiver to The Philippines.

I usually stay away from my local GAME store as their prices are always higher than online prices….even their own website. But good news about the extra jobs and such.

Great news, but I bet there still isn’t one near me.

Good news, but they still need to work on their customer service skills. When I visited my local store the other day I was treated very poorly. I sent an email to their customer services to complain and a week later still no reply – very bad!!

Maybe instead they should assign all that new staff to fulfilling the online pre-orders that they apparently couldn’t be arsed with.

My local game is really helpful and helped resolve my broken vita issues with no problem.’

Absolutely detest game, since their troubles their marketing seems even more aggressive
they constantly try to sell me extra stuff when I just want to buy a game, they often carry on trying even when I say im not interested!, either that or trying to persuade me to by a pre owned copy instead for a generous 3 quid off!
the other week after 3 attempts to get me to buy extra stuff I lost it and told the guy to shut up and just sell me my f#####g game!. Felt really bad afterwards but thats what happens when you wind up your customers
surely that can’t be a good way to do business?
