Hello Games Reveal More No Man’s Sky Information

No Man’s Sky was, in my opinion, the best reveal of the night at VGX. Hello Games’ small team looked to have managed to create one of the most ambitious titles in memory, with everything from the smallest stone to the biggest galaxy being procedural.

The trailer already showed planetary and space exploration as well as space combat, but there is a whole lot more than meets the eye. First land combat has also been confirmed, though whether that will include both on foot and vehicle sections wasn’t explained.

There will also be one shared universe that every player will have access to, and each will start from the edge of the universe and work inwards. It won’t be a simple task as players will come into contact with hostile beings and environments.

The locations of this universe will remain unknown until a player finds one, then everyone will have access to them. Apparently any change a player makes to a location will remain for others .

No confirmed platforms have been settled upon either, though it looks to be purely for the new generation.

  1. It does sound amazing and is very exciting. My concern is not that its ambitious but that its overambitious. That studio has just four people and making this kind of game…. I’m just not sure its going to be viable?

I just can’t see how its not going to get delayed, delayed, delayed. I really hope I’m wrong and they can deliver all that they promise, but I’m not getting my hopes up for this game just yet.

    • Believe.

    • They don’t have to create ‘that much’ content though. Depending how it works they can just make base objects that are randomised alongside the universe itself and press go.

Not that I’m meaning to belittle what they’re going for at all, it’s hugely ambitious, and I’m really excited for it. It’s just worth remembering that unlike most games, most of the content here isn’t being created individually with a particular look or action in mind, it’s just a shit-load of variables thrown together and monitored to see if there are any ill-effects.

I’m sure they can pull it off, and it’ll be a great experience.

  2. This and destiny seem like the only games screaming ‘next gen’ at me so far. Everything else is just better graphics, not that im complaining as had a lot of fun so far on ps4

this game really does stoke the imagination as to what might be possible, and only 4 people are making it!

    • What about The Division? I show the video yesterday and was amazed…

      • Oh shit forgot about that one!, I havent watched the vid yet but will do so later

wasnt blown away by the reveal back at e3 but the fact its an rpg style shooter has me interested. I didnt initially get too excited by the graphics either, its like im not seeing what everyone else is

  3. Agree with previous post. Only 4 people? Come on Sony help this people out and produce the game…

  4. Amazing! I’m with others in feeling cynical that it’ll pull off all it promised, but if it does then Elite 4 might as well not bother :) Also, its great to see space combat/exploration games making a comeback in the west, Russia has had all the fun in recent years. Anyone seen clips of Cold Stars?

  5. as a rough guess i think this game will be on ps4 and pc with cross platform play similar to war thunder, having one server to maintain will be cheaper, if it does come out on xb1 then that version will automatically have to be more expensive to run as they wont be allowed cross platform play and as such need its own server

  6. This sounds like my dream game. I’d love to see this work out for them.

  7. How can it be both procedually generated and let players actions effect others? So planets and such aren’t randomly generated? It sounds very interesting, let’s hope the gameplay holds up.

    • Variables between planets could be linked, indeed, many local variables could be linked at many levels between numerous environments. It’s not difficult to see how Hello Games will have to be careful to not temper the effect wave of variable changes too much, yet allow just enough for the player to notice the effects of actions elsewhere affecting the environments they’re in at any one time. Aghhhh, my head hurts!

  8. i wonder how big the universe will be.
    will there be trading?

right now it sounds like a mix of Elite and Eve Online.

i hope they can deliver on this though, it sounds hugely ambitious, but it could be awesome if they pull it off.
