Battlefield 4 Updates Arriving, Players Demanding Premium Refunds

Since last week’s news that DICE and EA considered the issues severe enough to halt all work on future DLC packs, and maybe even games, there has already been a steady stream of news about what they were fixing and updates already being released.

One useful thing for those beset by problems is the Top Issues Tracker, on Battlelog. It is effectively a forum post that is being updated regularly and shows the status of the various known issues within the game and when it is set to be addressed, exposing an internal bug tracking system to the outside world.

Already at the end of last week we saw patches released for PS3, PS4 and 360, while Monday saw a new patch for PC and the PS4 has now had a major patch released today.

Perhaps one of the more afflicted platforms, today’s PS4 patch brings the following fixes:

-General stability fixes that should remove a large amount of the client crashes we are currently seeing on the PS4
-Fixed the audio drop outs that could occur when playing on large maps. Typical map affected was Golmud Railway in Conquest with 64 players. Ambient sound would sometimes cut out, like foley sounds from player running, vehicle engine sounds, vehicle movement sounds, and map ambient sounds
-Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks
-Further reduced the probability of getting a corrupt save file by doing miscellaneous changes to the save file system. These include removing the save file saving again when quitting multiplayer
-Fixed multiple crashes that could occur when bringing up the in-game Battlelog during round transition
-Fixed a crash that could occur when using the BattleScreen
-Fixed a random crash related to destroying vehicles
-Fixed minor destruction issues in the terrain

It’s quite notable that the Xbox One has not had a patch released over the past week, as DICE have posted the following:

The update that was originally meant to go live the week of Dec 2 was delayed, but we decided to bring those fixes to the next upcoming Xbox One update.

This new combined Xbox One patch is currently in testing and certification, and we will release it as soon as possible. We are hoping to get it live late this week or early next week.

It sounds like progress is being made on all fronts, and at this rate, it seems that DICE might get the game into a fit state quite quickly.

Meanwhile, Eurogamer have reported on annoyed Xbox One gamers getting refunds for their Premium purchases, by getting in contact with Microsoft and using the live text chat support system. They cited the problems with gaining access to the Second Assault DLC pack, a timed Xbox One exclusive, as well as the persistent server issues, and were able to get their money back.

Others are trying to do the same on other platforms, but without the live chat system, it is naturally taking longer for them to get their responses.

  1. Iam so mad. The update has wiped my game save, if I restore from online storage it has not saved my progress. This is mental.

  2. Quite glad I stayed clear of bf4 at launch! It’s a game I’d like to get into at some point but not until it works properly!

  3. After the bad company 2 issues after the doc I decided I would never buy a battlefield game again

  4. Oddly enough, I haven’t had a single problem with it apart from losing my tank sound once

    • That’s not too bad, you could just make your own noises.

      “DaggaDaggaDagga. Pew! Pew!”

    • Same here, no problems for me on Xbox One

  5. On Xbox1 here, got the game Monday night managed to play one game last night. When i try to select a server they come up as empty. I dont know if i would be able to get my money back from asda?.

  6. not had any problems on ps4 at all other than sound missing when i first get into a vehicle, other than that im really impressed by bf4

    • Same here, and that was the only time I had a go on Conquest mode and not Rush. I could be wrong here but I’m guessing a lot of these problems are occurring with the Conquest mode so maybe it’s the 64 player thing causing trouble. It kind of makes sense seeming it’s fine for me and I only usually play on Rush.
