The latest deals in the 12 Deals of Christmas promotion on the PSN have gone up and there’s an interesting one there. Battlefield 4 is discounted to £24.99 on PS3. That’s a pretty good deal for a game that’s not been out too long. It was subject of some bugs that arose after release but developers DICE have committed to fixing those before they do anything else.
So here’s something even more interesting: The £9.99 digital upgrade to the PS4 version still works. So you could buy the PS3 version for £24.99 and then buy the PS4 upgrade for £9.99 and get yourself a bargain next gen version of the game.
Oh, and there’s also another little tick you might fancy to get the price even lower. The Sun (sorry for bringing up such a despicable rag’s name in polite company) is trying to get people to sign up to its Sun+ paywall online stuff by offering a free £10 PSN voucher to anyone who pays their £1 sign up fee (you can cancel before you’re charged again). HotUK Deals have got the scoop on that one.
So, if you don’t mind getting a bit grubby, you could sign up to the Sun’s thing, claim your PSN voucher and use it to upgrade your £24.99 digital copy of Battlefield 4 to the PlayStation 4 version. Next-gen Battlefield 4 for £25.99.
The other deal in part 7 of the 12 Deals of Christmas is the rather excellent The Walking Dead on PlayStation Vita for just £6.99. Fill your boots.
Update: Apparently the Sun’s offer has expired now, which is a shame but it gives me one more reason to hate them. As if another one were needed. Sorry for getting your hopes up. Still, PS4 BF4 for £34.98 is still as cheap as you’re likely to find it for a little while.
Thanks, Kelly (via email)

Yay, chance to get Murdoch out of pocket!

Or not, the deal is now sold out. Some people made loads of accounts and got £150 worth of PSN codes and probably more.
Murdo
I’ve done the Sun+ deal five times and now sitting at £50 PSN credit. £120 is the max. Accounts need to be active for 24 hours before cancellation but if you cancel within seven days, you get a full refund. I’ve used the same card on all accounts too.
There’s also a £10 Amazon voucher sign-up deal but that requires you to stay for two weeks, so you’ll end up paying the £1. Link here: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fun/competitions/promotions/5303797/Free-10-Amazon-voucher.html
Someone had the brilliant idea of signing up 35 times through the Amazon deal, buying a PS4 with the vouchers and PS+ with the PSN credit. That’s a lot of work though.
Blair Inglis
That’s mental abuse of a clearly system poor system. Seems they’re all gone now, though.
Murdo
Guess you can just ignore all that then…
carson321
or you couls send some of us some of your codes! :-)
Murdo
Already redeemed unfortunately.

Damn it, only managed to get £110 worth, always the same with those hotukdealers grabbing everything ….. ………..
gazzagb
Damn, wish I’d seen this earlier!

I still wonder if the game is worth £35 quid at the moment based on what I have heard, can anyone advise?
Chris
Same. Not sure If I’d rather use the credit towards AC4 or Need for Speed. Hmm.

Fortunately for me I haven’t had any issues apart from missing a tank noise once.
MuggleMind
On PS4, had a couple of connection drops during the first couple of days, but always at the end of a match. Since then, not had any problems at all (other than the fact that I’m useless at it!). Signed up for premium as well, so guess I think it’s worth a lot more than £35.

Might be a bit dense here, but how does the PS3 to PS4 upgrade work on a digital download? Thought it needed a PS3 disk to load?
Jimster71
PSN will have a record of you purchasing the digital PS3 version so will proabably just show you the reduced price for the PS4 version.
Peter Chapman
you buy the PS3 versions, your PSN account has the PS3 license. Then there’s a £9.99 upgrade option on the PS4’s store, you buy that and it unlocks the full PS4 version. I think.
Zephyre
Cheers for the replies Fellas. I’ve got £35 credit gathering dust at the mo, might give it a try tonight
hol
Yes & you can still play the PS3 version too, win/win :)
Youles
I am tempted, but I think I’d probably wait…I’m sure at some point I will be able to pick up the disc version for £40 and save some HDD space.
Chris
But the PS4 versions all require a full install off disc anyway, don’t they? So, I don’t imagine they’d be a difference between disc and digital on the HDD?
Youles
I’m not entirely sure, I know some data is installed to the cashe, but I don’t think it would be as much as the digital version.
TheDeathAvenger
I believe Chris is correct that the discs fully install in the background. Though I think there can still be a difference in the size of the disc install and the download version.
Though the actual downloading could be important for some people, with really low connection speeds or data caps/throttling.
Vallon
Yeah I’m with you on that one, its just not cheap enough to temp me – have to be really cheap to not be bothered about resale value :/
3shirts
Good little combo of deals there.
Not bothered about Battlefield but the daily rag signup thing is interesting.
Stefan L
And at least there’s no pesky console launches taking over the 2nd and 3rd pages. :P
Broonba
I might just grab the Walking Dead and see what all the fuss is about.
boyinastairwell
I’ve just bought it for the same reason! I’d got my eye on it anyway but £6.29 is too good to pass on.

When I first bought the PS3 disc version I entered the China Rising code even though it wasn’t available yet. I’ve since upgraded to the PS4 disc version which has also got the China Rising code in the box. Does anyone know whether the download will be locked to my Origin account or whether I’ll have to re-input the code again for the PS4? If I don’t I can give the code away to someone who does this digitally as I’m not sure if you get China Rising with the downloadable version which would in affect bump up the price.
hol
The dlc is locked to your PSN so your PS3 one will be available on your PS4 too. You don’t need the second code. :)
double-o-dave
Cool. I’ve told my mate to buy the game using this deal but I might see if I can check on my PS4 when I get home that I’ve definitely got the China Rising pack. In fact I might be able to check from my computer at work somehow if I sign into the Sony thing.
Peter Chapman
I bought the PS3 version via the web store. Never downloaded or played it. Then I immediately bought the £9.99 PS4 Discount version and told it to download to my PS4. Just turned on the PS4 and it’s sitting waiting for me. Lovely.
double-o-dave
I love it when a plan comes together!
Kennykazey
Thanks for the head up, gonna download the PS4 version while I’m at work. Been hoping for a pricedrop for BF4.
Kennykazey
The PS4 discount is actually cheaper in Norway, turns out it’s £7.40 here.
