A group of veteran Swedish game developers, including former Just Cause developer Stefan Ljungqvist, have formed a new studio named Deadbreed and announced their debut title of the same name.
Deadbreed has been described as a darker, more hardcore MOBA game with unprecedented levels of hero customisation and RPG gameplay features.
“I wanted to play a MOBA where I could totally customize how my hero looked and, more importantly played, but I couldn’t find one,” explains Stefan Ljungqvist. “Talking to friends, I realized I wasn’t the only one wanting this, so we decided to make it. Also, this was our chance to make a darker themed MOBA for hardcore gamers like ourselves and bring in some additional RPG gameplay features.”
Games such as DotA and League of Legends have a loyal following and have made the multiplayer online battle arena genre (MOBA) become very popular in recent years – so Deadbreed faces stiff competition. Based on feedback from the gaming community and a Steam Greenlight campaign, the game has received a positive response so far.
Deadbreed is currently accepting sign-ups for its upcoming closed Beta on its official website and is available for PC. It’s due for release in 2014.

What’s a MOBA

“multiplayer online battle arena” – basically a sub-genre of RTS games. Rather than build and control a horde, you just have the one hero character that you can level up and give powers to, etc.
