Titanfall Will Require Origin, South Park Will Not Use Uplay

Two forthcoming games, two differing approaches to DRM and data collection, as it has been revealed by Vince Zampella that Titanfall will require an Origin account, at least for the PC version of the game.

Xbox One gamers, will also be getting a beta, will not be required to sign in via EA’s software service.

Vince also tweeted the minimum PC specs required to run the game:

  • 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1
  • AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • 512MB VRAM,
  • Radeon HD 4770 or GeForce 8800GT

Meanwhile, Obsidian have revealed that forthcoming filth ’em up, South Park: The Stick of Truth, will not require UPlay.

“Uplay was not integrated at all into SP:SOT,” tweeted Obsidian, “It’s a Steam game, with Steam achievements.”

  1. don’t most EA games these days, on PC at least, need an Origin account?
so i’m not surprised you need one for Titanfall.

not needing Uplay for SoT on pc is good.

it’s irritating when you launch a game on Steam and then you have to have a second account with somebody else to play.

mind you when i do get it, it’ll be on console, so i don’t know what that means for the console version.
will that use Uplay i wonder.
    will it matter?

    • Will it even be on Steam?

Most EA Games don’t go there anymore.

    • Yeah, I think all EA games require Origin now, which is why I stopped buying EA games on PC. They also don’t put them on Steam anymore either..

  2. Don’t see why this was unexpected. Makes perfect sense for EA to use their own system.

  3. Balls, that just reminds me that the next Mass Effect will also be required to connect to Origin.

  4. Hardly surprising, every EA PC game requires Origin now. I just hope they have a proper server browser in-game, Battlelog is such a pain to use.

  5. Guessing tuffclub is pretty new to gaming as EA have been doing this for years
