Have a look at this. It’s some gameplay from Monolith Soft’s Wii U RPG, which is still going by the placeholder name of X at the moment.

It shows the battle system, which is based around that of Xenoblade Chronicles, a very successful Wii RPG. That means it’s sure to be a hit for fans of the genre.

To be honest, the game isn’t something I’m personally interested in but the merging of swordplay, gunfire and gigantic mechs alongside the standard Japanese RPG style is quite tantalising. It seems to be multiplayer focused and features some huge enemies as well as scenery.

There’s no word on a release date just yet – we’re guessing 2015 at earliest, at least in the West – and the game doesn’t even have a proper title yet, but this gameplay segment should give you a good idea of what to expect.

  1. Looks brilliant, I doubt it’ll be multiplayer based as it looks a lot like Xenoblade and that was singleplayer only. The party members are AI. Can’t wait to see some direct capture of this bad boy!

All in all I’d say it was a good Direct, the time spent on Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven sucked as we already have them in Europe but it’s understandable. Nintendo will be holding on to the Zelda reveal until E3 apparently…

Now to download the new stuff from Eshop!

    • Actually, looking at it again… You may be right. They’re likely named Player 2, 3 and 4 to hide names, but they behave quite separately and are very different levels. This could be very cool.

  2. This looks amazing, and Xenoblade Chronicles was fantastic so hopefully it’ll live up to my expectations!

  3. This looks a lot like Phantasy Star Online 2… Even the enemy design looks similar.

  4. Looks quite enjoyable. Is the rather smart Japanese gentleman at the end going to be a playable character? DLC maybe?
