PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 Will Be Available From Friday

A month ago a Gold Edition Wireless headset for the PS4 started getting listed by various retailers though there had been no official announcement at the time. Well now there has been an official announcement and there’s no mention of gold anywhere, instead Sony naming the new headset the PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0, and it will work with the PS4, PS3 and the Vita.

The features of 2.0. include:

  • 7.1 virtual surround sound (PS3 and PS4 only)
  • Crystal clear internal microphone
  • Pre-set sound modes optimised for games, movies and music
  • Foldable design for travel and storage
  • Up to 8 hours use time when fully charged
  • On-screen headset status display
  • Changeable faceplates

At the moment the price of the headset is £73.99. The headset looks exactly like the one that was leaked before except the box does not have a gold trophy on it.

  1. I just preordered these. Never had a proper gaming headset before, so I’m looking forward to enjoying these.

I’m told Astros are the best of the bunch but at £200 plus, that’s quite pricey.

  2. ‘2.0’ is a bit of an odd label seeing as that is a figure which some people might attribute to the sound channels. I mean they’d have to check the details to see that’s it 7.1.

Anyhow they look nice, and seem quite the accessory for the playstation fan. 73.99 seems and solid price too. I wonder if they’re comfortable.

    • the original set are very comfy mate and very light too. The only problem is using them in summertime as they are like ear muffs and make you head really warm

      • Good to know, thanks. Aye, I have a turtle beach headset which completely covers each ear. Nice in this cold weather, but I can imagine it soaking my ears in sweat in the summer.

  3. I’ve got the original version of these and can’t fault them at all. The virtual 7.1 surround sound is fantastic and the mic is crystal clear too, especially on PS4. I can’t see what else theyve added in this 2.0 version apart from the cosmetic overhaul, but that doesn’t seemed to have changed much apart from the blue bit

    • I guess that they work with Vita – that’s quite a shame for us, as it’s probably not worth the “upgrade” for £75. I wouldn’t necessarily use them with Vita but it’s nice to have the option. How would they connect to Vita, would you still have to have an annoying USB dongle of some kind?

I think I actually prefer the look of our ones too.

      • I’m guessing it connects via bluetooth to all devices.

      • You can connect to vita via 3.5mm jack, same as dualshock4

      • @Avenger – oh right, for some reason I didn’t think it had Bluetooth. I guess the dongle will just be required for PS3 & PS4.

@dtur_kimivan – is that for certain, I guess it would still be classed as wireless since it’s a handheld console?

      • no bluetooth, it’s a jack

      • Thanks! :)

  4. They have been available in Scandinavia for about a week now. I’m using one right now.

  5. Before you rush out and buy these (like I was going to) I suggest you watch the IGN review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GRCXwJZRgs (or read their hands on with it http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/02/11/playstation-gold-wireless-stereo-headset-for-ps4-hands-on).

Unfortunately it doesn’t sound as good as it could of been. Pulses are still looking like the go to for me.

    • My set of Sony Pulse headphones are awesome,I’d massively recommend them. The bass-impact tech that they’ve removed for this set obviously make them more expensive but it genuinely adds to your games (or music!).

  6. I thought these released back on feb. 10th cause i got them on that date. ???
The only difference i see to the other official version is that u can only store one preset as the other allows 6.

    • Forgot to add that u can connect these with your phone and take them out for a spin hearing music and receiving calls

  7. Where is the mic?

    • I bought this in the U.S. last week. The Mic is in the headset so no worries to have a microphone dangling in front of your face. The headset is fantastic. I used to have a Turtle Beach PX21 for my PS3 but I decided to upgrade to this. Interesting they are calling it 2.0 in UK but in the U.S. the box says Gold Trophy Wireless Headset. Its the same exact thing just different boxing/labeling based on the region. If you or anyone has any other questions about the headset reply here!

  8. Silly question but I’m after a pair of headphones that will bluetooth to my phone, plug into my TV and ipad.
Does anyone know if they will work like a normal pair of headphones (with cable) and then blutooth with ALL blutooth devices?
What makes them “Playstation” headphones over other wireless headphones? Just the make?

    • There is no bluetooth on this headset (and neither on the other Playstation headset, like the Pulse). It’s a Wifi headset. You have to plug the USB dongle in the PS4 (or PC/Mac) to use this headset. Using it with phone or Vita is only possible through the 3,5mm jack included.

  9. TSA is a bit late on this news, as it was posted on the PS Blog 3 weeks ago (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/02/03/new-wireless-stereo-playstation-4-headset-revealed-ps4-system-update-1-60-detailed/)
The headset is released just now in UK but is available in the rest of Europe since February 10th.

  10. Got mine with a lovely gold trophy in Halifax. Never had a pair of gaming headphones before, but from the little time I’ve played with them, I’m impressed . Lovely and comfy too :) unfortunately for me I look like a complete twat wearing them :D
