New Wii U Bundle Puts Mario Kart 8 In The Box

There were already a smattering of rumours, a leak and a healthy dose of inevitability, but it’s today that Nintendo have confirmed the existence of a Mario Kart 8 bundle for Wii U. It’s set to hit the shelves alongside the game’s release on May 30th, and will give you a black 32GB Wii U Premium alongside the standard edition of the endlessly popular karting game.

It’s an obvious move really, and follows in the footsteps of previous bundles for the likes of Wind Waker HD and New Super Mario Bros. U. In terms of pricing, it’s maybe a bit too high for an impulse buy, with Nintendo’s own online store holding pre-orders for £249.99, while Amazon have it for a flat £220.

Either way, it’s sure to provide a boost to the console’s sales, with Super Smash Bros. to look forward to later this year.

  1. This was more certain than The Last of Us on PS4, but still nice to get confirmation.

The game looks to be fantastic, it’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo will do DLC for this like they’re doing for Mario Golf World Tour… Which is the game mentioned in the info box.

  2. With all the money I’m not spending on PS4 games, I’m getting really really really tempted to cop a Wii U just for all the Nintendo games. Could I blag to my wife that it’s actually for our one year old son? Or even better, is there a Wii U version of Wii Fit I could groom her with?

    • There is a Wii Fit U, it even has a pedometer… Which isn’t what it sounds like.

  3. I can see myself getting one of these eventually. I just about have room between my PS3 and PS4.

  4. I am really tempted to get a Wii U but it’s just too expensive to be an impulse buy and not good enough for a fully fledged console to sit next to my ps4. £150 and it’d be sitting in my room right now.

Can you play the Wii U with a controller other than the giant tablet, like you could with the original Wii?

Yep, most of the Wii-U’s “proper” games support the Pro Controller (which is easily the nicest controller I’ve ever used – plus its battery life is insanely good!)
