Considering that it’s just a firmware update, the level of anticipation for firmware update 1.70 on PS4 has been particularly high. Admittedly this is probably down to the fact that it’s been over a month since we first heard about it and that Sony were rather tight-lipped about when it might actually be arriving. While the firmware’s not quite here yet, at least we now know when it will be!
A tweet this morning revealed that firmware update 1.70 will be arriving next week, on Wednesday 30th April:

The main focus this time around is to improve sharing functionality, whether it’s the addition of a more comprehensive video editor in SHAREfactory, tweaks to streaming, letting you save you captured images and video to an external USB drive or finally allowing you to turn HDCP off so that you can record your gameplay with an external capture card and edit on computer.
But that tweet says that there will be more information soon, and there have recently been little peaks at upcoming functionality that might be included. For example, Shuhei Yoshida said that the DualShock 4’s light bar would soon be dimmable, while Sucker Punch tweeted about the ability to pre-load pre-order content coming in April.
It’s clear that we don’t have the full picture just yet, but eager PS4 owners will get the chance to pour over the update’s changelog in a few days. What are you most looking forward to, or praying is included?

Would be over the moon if it brings the basic functionality of the PS3 to the PS4. Not that fussed about clogging up Youtube with billions of pointless videos.

Yeah I hope there’s lots more than just those features. I still need my ps3 around as it has my music/photo/videos collection on it. This is something that should have been on ps4 anyway.

Looking forward to hearing more details, rumour has it that MP3 playback is up and running at development stage and that seems likely if they are allowing music importing with Sharefactory, but no word on Dlna yet.

Ok, here’s some more rumour.. HD streaming for Twitch as well as Ustream, sidebar for text chat, archiving of streams also being enabled.

720p streaming and archiving streams aren’t rumour, but were announced way back when. Sidebar for text chat is news to me, though it wouldn’t surprise me.

Luckily since re-initialising PS4 a while ago I have had no further trouubles with the Trophies sync, I wouldn’t fancy doing it now though now where back on super slow bb took literally hours just to download Octodad. :(
