PSN & Bungie Suffering Network Issues As Destiny Beta Goes Live

The Destiny beta has gone live today on PlayStation consoles, but the high demand and traffic to get into the game has caused PSN to be intermittent. This has also led to problems of signing into Bungie’s website using PSN log ins with connections either timing out, or not even registering in the first place. This means it may take a little while before you can join the TSA Destiny clan and fight alongside everyone.

Sony has updated the PlayStation Connectivity status site saying, “The PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service. We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience.”

I’ve personally been trying to download the Beta on PS4 for the past couple of hours, with it timing out at different points. This was probably to be expected due to the hype surrounding Bungie’s sci-fi shooter, so you may be one of the lucky ones that gets into the beta tonight. If you don’t there’s always tomorrow.

  1. My Beta is currently downloading. 15 minutes to go, hopefully everything will continue ok.

  2. I can’t even access to the Android app on my phone at all, just says can’t connect to server. I was round at my brothers and he couldn’t get a fifa match on his ps4 and it wouldn’t connect to the ps store, just saying network undergoing maintenence which is obviously a lie. I find it quite pathetic to be honest.

    • I agree, before they could hide behind the ‘it’s a free service what do you expect?’ But now they have to face the fact that it’s seriously unstable

      • Agreed. sony need to get with it now. I’m amazed this isn’t working considering the promises made after the old psn outage but even those made about the ps4. I didn’t buy a ps4 for the same crapy ps3 service sony. Wake up and put your money where your mouth is.

  3. Still no luck signing in to the PSN, I have my code ready to put into the Store but so far it looks like I’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
At least we have the ability to remote download so it’ll hopefully download whilst I’m at work.

  4. Took awhile to get on the store. Then longer to put the code in. Then even longer to download the small installation. Once that’s downloaded you get a 10.97gb install to work through.

Wish it was an 11gb download from the store so I could play something else

    • Oh, crap. They’ve gone for the totally idiotic “tease you with a surprisingly quick tiny download, followed by 14 hours of waiting for the real download”. And you can’t do it in the background. I really hate that bollocks.

      • I think they do it so updates don’t need to be certified by Sony first, a process which takes a couple of weeks. I guess during beta they need to be snappy about applying updates quickly.

      • They could always do the big main download the proper way, and then do the updates in-game. That would make a lot more sense.

Or at least, slightly more sense than get the small download, then the update for that, and then download the rest.

On the other hand, I guess it means the download is the smallest possible version of the game and updates. Still amazes me that we’re still stuck with downloading version 1.00 of a game and _then_ all the updates. Why can’t the latest version with all the updates go on the store?

      • Because it’s the playstation store and they don’t do things in any kind of sensible way, ever.

      • I suspect you might be right there. If you asked them why, their response really would just be “It’s like that because reasons”

      • Yeah I was hoping I could just set my ps4 to standby mode and let it download tonight. I’m not as comfortable leaving it downloading now that it won’t turn off automatically. Not with it being a hot night for us UKers.

  5. I’ve been lucky with it. Preordered earlier today and it downloaded onto my ps4 whilst I was at work. Took me 5 or 6 times to actually start playing but I had a good hour on it once I got going. I had to record some stupid podcast after that though.

  6. Couldn’t start right away, download was super fast tho. Got kicked out at first, the got distracted by the plane crash with 154 fellow Dutchmen on board. An hour later played for hours without any problems. The thrill of a public event was awesome but then again, being the only one there sucked.

  7. I wrestled with the store for a long time, every now and then I’d be able to get to the games page but the download link was crossed out.

Turns out it was because I had a broken download of the beta from previously in my download list. Deleting that made it work. Just wish I’d known sooner.

Everything seems to have stabled now though.

  8. I know that Sony has problems occassionally but 2 hours till I get home from work and I’ve just started the game downloading….Fingers crossed….

  9. Was tough to get it to start downloading from the store but after then the big install was fast and played 2-3 hours last night with no issues at all.
