News Snatch: EA UFC, The Last Of Us Remastered And Sigourny Talks Alien: Isolation

Right then, just one Snatch this week so let’s get things going with the news that Sheik, Darunia and Ruto have all been confirmed for Hyrule Warriors. I have no idea who they are, but I misread it as Shrek and Darius and then wondered why an ogre and a Pop Idol turned West End star were to feature in the game.

Nearly four and half million people have watched this trailer for League of Legends which includes a foxy chick (as in she has a fox tale) and a chap with impressive beardage.

EA have relased in a infographic, or picture as us oldies call them, which shows that Bruce Lee is the most popular character in the UFC game.

The free content update #1 is now available for download worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and includes three new fighters.

  • TJ Dillashaw – Bantamweight Champion
  • Takeya Mizugaki – Bantamweight Division
  • Tyron Woodley – Welterweight Division

It also includes “Key Gameplay Updates”:

  • Touch Gloves: Users will now have the ability to manually make their fighter touch gloves (or choose not to touch gloves) before beginning to fight by pressing L2 on PS4 or LT on Xbox One. This can be done at the start of every round, or anytime the ref stands the fighters up.
  • Finish the Fight: During a knockout, the attacking fighter can jump on their downed opponent and “finish the fight” by delivering extra strikes as the knockout occurs.
  • Sprawls: The defending fighter now sprawls when successfully defending against a power takedown.
  • Clinch Break from the Cage: Fighters now have the ability to break out of a clinch when pressed against the fence by pressing the L3 button.
  • Power Takedowns and Sweeps: Power takedowns and side control sweeps have been removed from fighters who would not normally have them.
  • Stamina: Stamina no longer regenerates if the user holds block. The user will also take a larger stamina penalty if hit while weak blocking.
  • Sweep Defense: The dominant fighter in the Full Guard position now has a larger window to reverse the Full Guard sweep to Mount.

Sigourny Weaver is awesome, this is a fact, and she is now ever more awesome, as she has returned to the world of Alien in the forthcoming Alien: Isolation game.

“I was very impressed with the seriousness of the way they approached the story, the characters, the environment, all these tiny touches,” she told USA Today. “I thought, ‘yeah, I’d like to do that!'”

Weaver went on to say she watched the original Alien films before reocording her dialogue for the game, “I really don’t think of it as a video game,” she added, “I think of it as a video experience that, I as an actor, got to enter this world and do what I do.”

“It was eerie, because it was like no time had passed. I opened my mouth and Ripley started talking. I think after four films where I played Ripley, it’s somehow part of my DNA now, and I didn’t really expect that to be.”

Asteroids The Movie was a thing back in 2013, but seems to have stalled in development which makes you wonder why Warner Bros. has acquired feature films rights to the classic 1980s arcade game Space Invaders. Top producer Akiva Goldsman will be in charge and can hopefully make a better movie than Battleship.

redhood
Gamestop have revealed that fan favourite character the Red Hood is coming to Batman: Arkham Knight as a playable character.

A couple of tidbits of news about The Last of Us Remastered; Naughty Dog say the power of the PlayStation 4 has allowed them to “significantly improve the load times” within the matchmaking multiplayer. They have also stated that multiplayer trophies should be easier to achieve, “DLC map trophies now require five downs or executions and deaths don’t matter.”

There’s even more good news for newcomers, too:

If you’re a new player, you’ll start with 9 loadout points instead of 8. You’ll reach the max of 13 loadout points sooner as a result. All fifteen of our maps are in each playlist so the player pool will be consolidated. This means faster matchmaking and that you will have a greater variety of maps in each playlist! There’s a lot of great new stuff.

Exciting! Can’t wait to go home and find out what is new in the Destiny beta.

Bloober Team have already revealed that the poorly rated Basement Crawl will be rebuilt in a new engine and offered free to people who bought the original game and have now announced further details.

There will be new characters, a brand new single player campaign and name change to Basement Brawl. The game is out at the end of the year, but may slip in to 2015.

ryu
A slightly belated happy birthday to Ryu, who is a spritely fifty years old this week.

traininglair
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Training Lair is in the works for Xbox 360 with Kinect and doesn’t look like Fruit Ninja at all. The game will be published by Activision who seem to the be the only ones bothering with licensed titles these days.

A ‘triple-A’ free-to-play game, Judas Code, has been annpunced for PS Vita in Japan. The “dramatic battlefield RPG” combines gun battles with card battles and is set during World War III.

Can we have cheer for the news team who are working their socks off whilst I am also working my socks off, but doing the day job so can’t do much TSA’ing. Hip hip horay for them!

A famous short film, Pixels, is to be turned in to a movie starring Peter Dinklage, fresh from warning us about wizards from the moon. Sadly the film also stars Adam Sandler so is bound to be complete and utter rubbish.

Sony Pictures has been busy with the cheque book and licensed Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Galaga, Asteroids, Q*Bert, Missile Command, Defender, Breakout, Robotron and Centipede for the movie.

Below is the first shot from the film in which Dinklage looks like Barf from Spaceballs.

“We thought, ‘Someone has to sport the mullet in the movie,’…His character has been in prison. He’s the only one who’s still trapped in the eighties a bit,” said director Chris Columbus.

A short video from Mr Indie himself, Mike Bithell, explaining how he makes screen shots in Volume.

One of the nice things about Dragon Age was that it was very hard to fail at finding yourself a partner, do the horizintal tango and getting loved up. Falling love was rather unrealistic though, so Bioware have decided to ruin you chances at happiness and have revealed that in future games there is every chance your romance will be doomed and you will end up alone and single with ten cats.

I may have added the bit about cats.

Staying with Dragon Age, we have some new screens from Dragon Age 3: (No one expects the Spanish) Inquisition which feature the handsome Varric Tethras.

And Finally, Future FIFA shows what FIFA could look like in, cunningly, the future. An EA Staff member has recreated a match using the same camera angles and display as the current game.

  1. Why does that “infographic” appear to contain some sort of gay sex manual? It’s giving me all sorts of ideas.

Actually, it’s not giving me ideas. I think I’ve been in all of those positions at some point.

  2. Looks like EA skipped the part in their FIFA video where it asks whether you still speak the same language as last time you played.

  3. Future Fifa? Soooo football?

  4. Love that Pixel short, hopefully the movie won’t be terrible.

    • Wrongly named tho, those are voxels not pixels. Wonder if the Resogun ship will make an appearance, it is a Sony movie…

  5. I only clicked on this article for Sigourney. Always was deeply impressed by her. Maybe because she knows how to deal with aliens and I am one. :o)

League of what..? Never heard of that, seems to work, my filter to concentrate on the games that interest me. But, even if it’s not my type of game for sure, I quite liked that trailer! :o)
