3D Blu-Ray Support Coming To PlayStation 4

Sony has announced that an upcoming patch will finally allow users to watch their 3D Blu-Ray films via the PlayStation 4. The feature is set to go live as part of update 1.75, following an earlier announcement from Microsoft that 3D support will come to Xbox One next month.

Though I can’t say I’ve really missed 3D support myself, I know a number of PlayStation fans were perplexed when the feature was omitted from launch day. It may have been on the bottom end of Sony’s list of priorities: that, or the firm was keen to give PlayStation 3 owners another reasons to keep their old consoles knocking about.

  1. Well, that’s a promising note at least, hopefully that’s just the thin edge of the wedge of features we can expect from the next update.

  2. I sometimes wonder why there is so many that still desire DLNA support, CD and 3d Support for ps4. I personally have always found DLNA to be a disaster on ps3, most formats didn’t work and don’t use cd’s anymore. I welcome full bluray support(thus 3d) but the rest is either built in my tv or the raspberry in the bedroom takes care of it.

    • So let me try and understand this. You’ve got 3 options available to you, so everyone else should be happy with that?

My TV doesn’t do such things. And really, I don’t want it to do such things. A TV should just display a video signal from whatever box you want to connect to it. I even object to having to have a Freeview decoder built into it (which you can’t seem to avoid these days).

The PS3 does a great job of playing MP3s and video, and I’m always using it for that. It’d be nice for the PS4 to do it, since it’s a lot quieter (I’ve rarely heard the fans going on mine).

And really, anything like a games console should be capable of doing all that stuff these days. Sony should have realised that to start with. (In exactly the opposite way that MS seemed to forget that people might want to play games too)

I just want them to add that, and fix the WiFi settings on the PS4. Problem there is you can’t easily go in and change 1 thing without having to enter all the settings again. I like to change the DNS settings from automatic to a certain server. Because reasons. Something to do with Netflix ;) The PS3 remembers that DNS address and makes it trivial to switch between that and getting it from the router. The PS4 makes you type it in every single time.

      • Easy tiger. You clearly want audio / visual playback via USB from your previous post and I have absolutely no need for that.

He was clearly expressing his own opinion on what he wants just as you did, and just because what he says doesn’t suit you, you go on the offensive.

To be honest this is why I have almost stopped posting on forums as no one can have an opinion anymore!!!

  3. Good, although it doesn’t really make much of a difference to me giving the PS3 still supports them and is connected to the same TV on the other HDMI channel.

I’m hoping to see more games supporting the 3D output option too

  4. Be good if the official PS3 remote also would pair up and work at the same time. Maybe that could be a v2.00 feature?

  5. Awesome :-)

  6. This may sound daft but the thing I want most is to be able to play a blu ray without it asking if I want to connect to the internet I’ve already set it to no so I don’t want it to ask me every time I put in a disk
