Konami Pulls The Plug On Fan Made Remake Of Original Metal Gear, David Hayter Was Involved

A few months ago a fan remake of the very first Metal Gear game by Outer Heaven, which originally  released in 1987, was given Konami’s blessing. It looked like a project that would remain true to form, and even David Hayter was on board to lend his voice to the project. In fact in the trailer above you can hear some of the work he recorded. There’s bad news though as Konami has now retracted its support for the remake.

The reason that was given for this is that in the end Konami couldn’t agree on the final details, and so asked for the work to stop. The project was gaining steam as various industry figures joined including a member of Sony’s XDev team, so if a deal could have been worked we may have seen the remake on Sony’s consoles. Outer Heaven aren’t giving up on making a game though, and the team has started on a new IP.

  1. Oh man, that’s a shame.

  2. Pretty poor move by Konami.

  3. Sad news :(

  4. Damn. Never really got into the original MG. Seems dumb for Konami to put a shutter on this, unless they have their own remake in the pipeline of course.

    • Thats the sort of optimistic rumor stirring that I’m totally happy to go with :)

  5. Unless MGS V is going to re tread what mg1 and mg2 did and this open world stuff only lasts for 2 chapters, or it’s comes with a secret re-imagining of them separately , this is a silly mood.
Even hideo kojima has said he doesn’t have the time to do remakes at the moment, but he would like them or mgs1 to get done.

If David Hayter really isent to be involved with V in any way, then this could be a reason they shut it down. If it gained popularity it would make listening to ‘Jack Sutherland’ even worse….
