This is The Last of Us’ second appearance under the WeView spotlight. When we took a look at the game, just over a year ago now, it received an impressive twenty-eight Buy It votes. Can the remastered version achieve the same indisputable result?
For me, The Last of Us is the best game I’ve ever played. The game sent me on an emotional roller-coaster as you witnessed an initial tentative relationship between Joel and Ellie blossom into something very special indeed.
The gameplay bits between were immensely satisfying too, despite it feeling slightly clunky compared to the Uncharted series. Naughty Dog created a masterpiece in my eyes, and that’s without even mentioning the spectacular visuals. The remastered version came complete with all the DLC packs, but more noticeably ran at 60fps, making The Last of Us experience just that bit better.
Alex reviewed the original game for TSA, scoring it 10/10. He concluded:
It’s in the game’s storytelling and scripting that the real surprises lay. Joel and Ellie’s story is a sprawling, often desperate struggle for survival against insurmountable odds and a series of increasing bad rolls of the dice, and it’s expertly told.
Blair took a look at the Left Behind DLC, which focuses on Ellie’s story before The Last of Us’ events. He concluded in his review:
Left Behind is the perfect complimentary side-dish for The Last of Us. It’s happier at points, but just as bleak at others, and everything else is pretty much on par with any of the other chapters in the tale. There’s a brilliant approach to the narrative, while Ellie and Riley’s charm shines throughout, their wonder and imagination matching exactly how you’ll feel as you return to this world.
Now it’s over to you. As previously mentioned we’ve already covered The Last of Us before, so this time we’re interested to hear if the game still had the same impact on the PlayStation 4, and if you would recommend buying the game for a second time. Let us know in the comments below and give the game either a Buy It, Sale It, Plus It or Avoid It Rating. Be sure to get your comments in by Sunday evening.

The Last of Us. The greatest game there has ever been. Emotionally and graphically it’s vast and layered. The journey is much more than simply getting from A to B. It’s loaded with twists and sinister turns and gives you a glimpse into the thought of humanity. The collapse of it, tied in with the glimmer of hope you will begin to harbour for your back foot duo.
Play this game as this is testament to the fact as to why gaming is the biggest entertainment medium on the planet. This also begs the question as to should a perfectly crafted game be viewed as art. I’d say so.
Whichever team you prefer. Find a way to play this game as it’s perfection in everyday. Naughty Gods did it again.
An absolute must play.

Echoing the thoughts of other people, I too felt like this would be a one time play through kind of game. Any game focused mainly on a linear narrative normally only gets a single run through the story. This game however is different.
Just like how a movie can be watched multiple times, so too can The Last of Us be played multiple times. The story is so brilliantly told that I personally don’t feel the fatigue of re watching cutscenes I viewed a year ago. Maybe because I only played it through once a year ago, I felt like it was time to revisit the post apocalyptic world again.
This leads me nicely into what’s changed about that world and although the game has been visually improved to 1080P 60FPS, I feel like that’s not the main draw of replaying it on PS4. This is the game how it should’ve been released in my opinion. What we played last year was the beta and this is the full release. The smooth frame-rate and gorgeous 1080P visuals really pop on the new hardware, and for me this is the ultimate way to experience the game.
Should you purchase it again if you’ve played through it before. Absolutely. This is the best way to experience the best game of last generation. Just like Bluray rereleases of old films, this Remastered edition is worth every penny.
Buy it!

Easiest Buy It recommendation yet, even if you have the PS3 version as I do.
This is a confident developer at their best showing off what they can do when unshackled by technical constraints.
This is one of those games that will always be talked about like Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid and BioShock.
The story gets you invested pretty quickly and keeps you hooked through the rollercoaster of a year Joel and Ellie face on their journey.
The gameplay manages to feel like a good survival horror game blended with a good action adventure.
While you’re fundamentally getting the same experience as playing the original, Remastered feels like a Blu Ray upgrade of an old VHS. The image is crystal clear and the controls are solid. After playing at 60fps for a while, going back to 30 just feels wrong. However the option is there for people who can’t get used to the higher refresh and it is rock solid unlike on PS3.
I hope everyone gets to play this, whether on PS3 or PS4, as it is one of the best games out there.
