So it turns out that this Grand Theft Auto series is quite a big deal, with Rockstar’s swan song to the last generation a smash hit on the new just a year later. Having already set a few records last year, such as holding the highest grossing game in a single week, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release has now pushed it beyond Call of Duty: Black Ops to become the UK’s all-time highest selling game. A truly mighty achievement.
GTA V might have been the biggest fish in the pond, but last week saw a few other major releases too. Far Cry 4 became the best selling Far Cry game yet (perhaps helped along by a Tuesday launch, to have more time on store shelves) as it took second place. Dragon Age: Inquisition debuted in 5th during a relatively muted end of year showing from EA – though this is a game which will likely have had strong digital sales on PC, which are not included.
Last week’s top three all shuffled down the list, as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare slipped to 3rd, Assassin’s Creed: Unity dropping down from 2nd to 6th and Halo: The Master Chief Collection tumbled to 10th place. FIFA 15 managed to hold onto 4th as everything changed around it.
